VIENNA - The U.N. nuclear watchdog introduced on Thursday a new radiation warning symbol showing emanating waves, a skull and crossbones, and a running person.
It will supplement the existing three-cornered trefoil symbol which "has no intuitive meaning and little recognition beyond those educated in its significance," the International Atomic Energy Agency said in a statement.
The new symbol was designed after a five-year study involving 1,650 people of varying ages and backgrounds in 11 countries to "ensure that its message of 'danger, stay away' was crystal clear and understood by all."
The IAEA said the new symbol would help reduce deaths and injuries from accidental exposure to ionizing radiation.

The "running person". Did they get that idea from the French delegate?

Um, let's see... if a fan is blowing and you see a skull, black guys are supposed to run away. Got it, makes sense to me.

Hey, if I know theres radiation, youll see me running too, haha. I dont think its a french thing.
To: Schnucki
I thought it was the IAEA Logo. Roughly translated it means
"Murderous thugs have radioactive bombs, so we must beat feet back to Bern".
Public studies showed that an alternate logo featuring a human figure with his head up his own arse was unclear, because it could be applied to almost any UN Organization.

OK, the new version clearly pictos the "danger" message, but if the trefoil symbol "is not intuitively" recognised, how do the illiterates of the world know any better from this marker what it is from which they are supposed to run or die?
Wonder how much money the UN spent in five years to come up with this useless frippery? Perhaps as much as they have spent on supressing violence in Darfur to about as much effect?

The new symbol was designed after a five-year study involving 1,650 people of varying ages and backgrounds in 11 countries to "ensure that its message of 'danger, stay away' was crystal clear and understood by all." Well, there's a solution just waiting for a problem.
How much money was taken out of my taxes for this?

If you're on the bottom of the ocean, and you see a submarine lifting towards the surface, then you should do "the robot" away from the disco "skull and crossbones" display?
