(CBS4) MIAMI Former Miami Heat superstar Tim Hardaway told a local sports radio show that he hates gay people.
Hardaway made the comments while he was being interviewed by Dan Le Batard on 790 the Ticket Wednesday afternoon.
The five time All Star was asked how he would deal with a gay teammate.
First of all I wouldnt want him on my team, said Hardaway. Second of all, if he was on my team I would really distance myself from him because I dont think thats right and I dont think he should be in the locker room when were in the locker room.
Le Batard took Hardaway to task, pointing out that his comments were flatly homophobic and bigoted, but that only seemed to stir up the former point guard.
Well, you know, I hate gay people, Hardaway said in response to Le Batard. I let it be known I dont like gay people. I dont like to be around gay people. Im homophobic. It shouldnt be in the world, in the United States, I dont like it.
Hardaways comments come on the heels of a groundbreaking revelation made by former player John Amaechi, who became the first professional basketball player to openly identify himself as gay.
Amaechi became only the sixth male atlhlete from one of the four major American sports (NBA,MLB,NFL,NHL) to admit he is gay.
Former NFL running back David Kopay , offensive lineman Roy Simmons and defensive lineman Esera Tuaolo just recently came out.
Glenn Burke, an outfielder for the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Oakland Athletics in the 1970s, and Billy Bean, a utility player in the 1980s and 1990s, have also come out.
No player has ever publicly admitted to being gay while currently playing for one of the four major American sports.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure I have. It depends on how they behave. If they act like silly girls, I wouldn't want to be around them; but that hasn't been my experience.
He's retired. They can't touch him. Smart guy.
Give it time.........
That survey was taken in the 70s. What is the average age of homosexuals who die of natural causes today?
I think God teaches us to love all, but I can understand why someone might bash the life style of gay's. And truly be repulsed by the gay life. Can anyone really agree with what they do to each other. Think about it.
It's just a conspiracy to get me to take an interest in the NBA again.
"A PHOBIA is not a hatred. A phobia is a FEAR."
Your definition is technically correct, however "Homophobia" is neither a fear, nor is it necessarily hatred. It is a rhetorical device used by liberals, secular humanists and homosexual advocates.
It's purpose is to suppress the opinions of those who do not agree with homosexual lifestyle. It is a way to oppress intellectual discourse.
"Sinatra?"
Not even close. Phranc is a jewish, lesbian, folk singer.

The word hate has been hijacked like the word gay.
My 1860? dictionary says hate = extreme dislike.
I can have a extreme dislike for something or someone and still be mature and respectful.
"deviants" ought to be "sodomites" who are frequently disease bearing pedophiles.
The radio station WIOD put up a poll of the remark and it is much in Tim's favor!
If you agree with Tim go to www.wiod.com and cast your vote!!
Should be interesting to see after many FReepers done it!!!
Not only that, have you not noticed suddenly all the babes that is reporting on men's sporting events (P.C.???)!
Even on George Michael's "Sports Machine" show late Sunday, he has a babe on taking over his "slot-machine"!!
Feminization is certainly taking roots in men's sport, soon they all will be in the locker rooms as well!!!
GSWarrior, it's possible due to AIDS drugs that the average lifespan of people affected by AIDS has increased somewhat, but it's hard to imagine, given the physical filth associated with the lifestyle, that homosexuals have attained anywhere close to the same longevity rates as heterosexuals.
Since about 80% of homosexuals admit to the unsanitary practice of rimming, which results in the ingestion of feces, it is not unreasonable to conclude that health would be ill affected whether we're talking about the 70s or today.
Besides, if survey dates are that important, then it's ironic that homosexuals so often cite the very old 1948 "10 percent of society is gay" statistic from the oft-disputed Alfred Kinsey study.
Of course, there are many later studies continuing to show high disease rates amongst homosexuals.
As of 1992, a whopping 83 percent of U.S. AIDS in whites had occurred in homosexuals. This, according to "CDC HIV/AIDS" Surveillance dated February of 1993.
A Seattle sexual diary study reported that homosexuals had, on a yearly average: fellated 108 men and swallowed semen from 48; exchanged saliva with 96; experienced 68 anal penetrations; and ingested fecal material from 19.
Sorry. You asked.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control reported that 66 percent of the hepatitis A cases in New York in the first six months of 1991 were among homosexuals.
I'm not sure if he actually meant that he hated homosexuals. Personally, I have no hatred for homosexuals. I disagree with their lifestyle and behavior and their desire to force people to accept what I believe to be immoral. I'm not "homophobic". There really is no such thing as "homophobia" anyway. It is a word made up by liberals and the homosexual agenda to attack those who oppose what they believe to be deviant and immoral lifestyle decisions.
It seems that a lot of people may feel the same way based on the poll and the "The John Thompson Show". Unfortunately, the mostly leftist media panics when they see people aren't supporting the liberal agenda. That seems to be why they pulled the poll on the CBS web site.
"he also turned the old trick of asking if Jesus hated homosexuals and disingenuously asking where it was stated in the Bible that homosexuality was wrong."
Jesus loves everyone, but he doesn't tolerate immoral behavior. It does say in the Bible that homosexuality is wrong in both the Old and New Testament.
"Finally, Coach Thompson turned the topic into a civil rights issue, with his sideman comparing people who were not accepting of homosexuality to Nazis in the holocaust."
Wow! I've never heard that comparison before.
Tim Hardings of course apologized, but I wonder if he'll be encouraged go to the same type of Thought Police Camp that the Grey's star went.
Tim is learning about the liberal media the Hardaway.
