The book on Rudy Giuliani is that he is too liberal on social issues to win the Republican presidential nomination. Tony Perkins, head of the Family Research Council, put it succinctly: "I don't see anyone getting the Republican nomination who is not pro-life and a staunch defender of traditional marriage."
But Mr. Giuliani is running strong in Iowa and New Hampshire polls and leading most national surveys of Republicans. He's charming crowds of conservatives everywhere he goes. So it's worth wondering if Mr. Perkins is missing an undercurrent coursing through conservative politics.
Republicans have just experienced a bruising midterm election defeat. The president is suffering dismal approval ratings, and its erstwhile front-runner for the presidential nomination, Sen. John McCain, made his national reputation as a "maverick." The Giuliani rise evident now may be more than name recognition and residual support from his stalwart leadership following the Sept. 11 attacks. Mr. Giuliani's support may also arise from his having successfully moved an entrenched political culture in New York City, something national Republicans have not been able to do in Washington.

You are missing the point and reading the issue simplistically. I never said that Giuliani opposed abortion merely that no one has shown me where he says that Roe v Wade is good law. There is a huge difference to anyone who values the Constitution.
.....................
"What do Alan Dershowitz and Laurence Tribe have in common with Antonin Scalia and Robert Bork? They all believe Roe v. Wade was a bad decision. Dershowitz and Tribe are not the only pro-choice legal scholars who denounce Roe as poor jurisprudence."

BECAUSE IT ISN'T DONE; NOBODY WANTS TO VOTE FOR A SOMEONE WHO ISN'T GOING TO STAY THE COURSE AND COMES RIGHT OUT AND SAYS SO!
What you proposed is not an intelligent proposition and would be political death for anyone who foolishly followed it.
Show me where I "praised" it. No, I acknowledge that it worked, and it has consequences, which is a fact. Without Carnahan and Tim Johnson the Democrats wouldn't have a Senate majority.
How many Iraqis and Americans may die because of a Democrat majority in the Senate? How many die now because the Iraqis are too scared of these Democrat flakes to come out and trust us.
Lives, fortunes, and sacred honor; our Founders understood what that meant, and believe me, many paid dearly. I risk my life several times a year to do something about crooked environmentalists, because the power they wield is sufficient to preclude this country from defending itself. Millions may die because of these shills for corporate globo-thugs. These are the stakes in political power, whether like it or not. Best you get with the program or the left will run over what's left of you and your family, and if you don't think that's a real threat, just consider:
These globo communists are committed to eliminating 9/10ths of the world's population (in the UN Global Biodiversity Assessment),
They've killed tens of millions of babies by abortion,
They've killed tens of millions with malaria from the bogus ban on DDT.
Hosing you is nothing to them. These are the stakes sirrah, and your wimpy whining about poor Rudy just doesn't cut it by comparison. Suck it up and get it together or they'll run right over you just like they'll run over Rudy.
Rudy is on record as saying that marriage is for a man and a woman. He has never said that he thinks that two men or two women should be allowed to marry.
He has also talked about Roe V Wade. He called is bad law and believes as most Conservatives do, that the decision belongs with the states.
"He has also talked about Roe V Wade. He called is bad law and believes as most Conservatives do, that the decision belongs with the states."
That is exactly my point.

From USNews...
1. Duncan Hunter was born on May 31,1948, in Riverside, Calif., where his father was a real estate developer. He and his wife, Lynne, have two sonsone a former Marine who served two tours in Iraqand several grandchildren.
2. He dropped out of college to serve in the military, where he was an Army Ranger paratrooper in Vietnam from 1969 to 1971. He received a Bronze Star for his service in 24 helicopter combat assaults.
3. While attending night school to earn his law degree from Western State University through the GI Bill, he supplemented his income by working in farming and construction. Upon graduation, he worked as an attorney, setting up a private practice in the Barrio Logan neighborhood of San Diego and providing free legal assistance to many in the area's Hispanic community.
4. He was elected to Congress in 1980 as a part of the Reagan revolution. As a congressman, he is known for his hawkish views and promilitary stance, serving on the Armed Services Committee, and, more recently, the Select Committee on Homeland Security.
5. The American Conservative Union routinely gives Hunter's voting records high scores for voting for conservative policies and agendas, including a perfect score of 100 in multiple years; conversely, the liberal Americans for Democratic Action has on multiple occasions given Hunter's voting record a zero score.
6. In 1988, he used a sledgehammer to make a pointsmashing a Toshiba radio to protest the company's sale of submarine technology products to countries in the Soviet blocand advocated barring Toshiba from ever doing business in the United States.
7. In 1992, he was troubled by 399 House Bank overdrafts totaling $129,000, and for three days set up a card table in front of the El Cajon courthouse with copies of his checks, ready to explain each one to any voter. (He was cleared of any wrongdoing,
8. In 2001, he lobbied for a $32 billion increase in current spending, and said the Clinton administration was trying to "conduct an aggressive Ronald Reagan foreign policy with a Jimmy Carter defense budget."
9. Throughout his career, Duncan Hunter has lobbied for more controlled measures along the U.S.-Mexico border, including the installation of fences and border crackdowns; ironically, his younger brother John launched the Water Station project, in which volunteers lug thousands of gallons of water throughout the border's desert to prevent undocumented immigrants from dying in the desert as they attempt to cross into the U.S.
10. He lost his home in the cedar wildfires that raged throughout Southern California in 2003.
xxxx
Also, he was one of the opponents of the Chinese/COSCO port deal in Long Beach during the Clinton administration.
He sounds good - certainly seems his heart is in the right place. He reads like a great candidate; did he throw his hat in the ring, yet?
I just posted his announcement speech from January 25 here.
Thank you. I read it and very impressive. Never hearing him speak, I have one question - does he bow down to PC or does he say it like it is?
This is faulty logic. I don't condone it a bit; I acknowledge that it is effective. I also understand that putting my commitments ahead of my life is as powerful a statement as a human can make, one that is essential to real leadership. If you can't discern that distinction, that's too bad for you.
I don't have to suck up to anything or anyone - got that? You are the one living in fear - NOT ME!!
Fear? Horse feces. I am simply acknowledging reality not living in denial, like you.
It's all about good vs. evil and if you are afraid of evil - you are bowing down to evil.
So apparently in your opinion, it's evil to put one's commitments ahead of one's own life. I see. Well, we don't share those values. You think it's just fine to cop out because of personal difficulty. I don't, not when the stakes involve the lives of others.
Which comment, FRiend?
That's all great stuff. It's just too bad that he's an anti-gun wingnut.
Surely you understand my point. By appointing justices who are strict constructionists, by winning the war on terror, Rudy will make all babies infinitely safer.
If anyone is playing with the truth, it is you. Giuliani does not support partial birth abortion. He simply wants it to include the life-of-the-mother exception, which is the ethically correct position.
thank you, My2Cents. :)
Really MiaT, are you telling me you believe an eminently spinnable promise like Rudy's promises on judicial appointments? You believe that after he appointed more Democrats to positions in New York than Republicans?
What is a "strict constructionist" to Rudy might is likely to be a considerably different thing to you.
Peach, with all due respect, you're wasting your breath on Les Miserables (although for the record, and to reach those on the fence, your post is most valuable). Rudy isn't anyone's concept of a "total conservative" (whatever that is), but the misery lovers on FR who say that there isn't a conservative bone in Rudy's body are either intellectually retarded, or lying.
