An associate of mine, he is a graduate of MIT with a degree in meteorology, recently attended a conference of meteorologists. The vast concenses of this group is there is a minor warming of the earth since the last two hundred years that is not out of the norm in relationship to warming and cooling periods of the last few thousand years.
They also concluded that the CO2 driven global warming hypothesis is not valid.

There is no question that there is a "greenhouse" effect. Otherwise, half the planet would freeze every night when there is no sunlight falling on it.

Actully, night time cooling is clear evidence of how little greenhouse effectthere is from just "greenhoue gases". Under normal, clear sky conditions, the earth and atmosphere start cooling as soon as the sun goes down and continue to cool until sunrise. Cloud cover has a dramatic effect on this cooling, as do high humidity levels.
