There is a case going to the SCOTUS about in-state tuition for illegals.

I would also enjoy States sending Congress bills for the health care costs, impacts on the local economy etc. Even better - send to bills to every Senator and Rep who've opposed the law and perpetuated the problem (Hatch and Cannon, for example).

Do you have any links/citations for that case? I've heard about it, but never been able to find any details...

Utah is unique. People are conservative but many of their reps are mush. Why? Apathy - most just don't pay attention and end up pressing the same button year after year without scrutinizing voting records etc.

Additionally, the two big papers in the area are still reasonably well read (the local MSM is still reasonably trusted) and both are totally liberal. FWIW - it's speculated that Joe Cannon (Rep. Cannon's brother) authored the original offensive editorial.

Basically, it takes a major scandal to be knocked out.

Where is the compassion . . . .

http://www.house.gov/apps/list/hearing/ia05_king/col_20060505_bite.html

Congressman Steve King of Iowa comments on the "Day Without Immigrants" farce.

". . . What would that May 1st look like without illegal immigration? . . . The lives of 12 U.S. citizens would be saved who otherwise die a violent death at the hands of murderous illegal aliens each day. Another 13 Americans would survive who are otherwise killed each day by uninsured drunk driving illegals . . . ."

25 a day * 365 days a year

Other than being called names has the Congressman been refuted?

My bad...I think it is still in district courts. But, the issue will eventually end up there.

Excellent piece. After we get a couple 100 million more thirld worlders in the next 30 to 50 years, there isn't going to be much room left for compassion.

What's wrong with all of you. Where is that American Fighting Spirit. Get off of your lazy, complaining behinds and get out on those streets and protest. And I mean protest just as loudly, just as angrily as the pro-illegal immigrants and their activists do. The only way you are going to get the government's attention is not through words or sending them emails. It is by action. America has been built by men and women who were ready to fight to defend our country from all enemies. Foreign and domestic for that matter. If you stop fighting and just let government do whatever they want to do, guess what country the U.S. will turn into. Mexico! Now is the time to put up or shut up! We need to get out on those streets and let our government know we are FED UP and will not take it any more. Illegal immigrants are thriving in this country all with the cooporation of our government and our businesses. If we loose this fight, we have only ourselves to blame. Get out of your comfort zone now, (you can always go back to it later when this is over). But for now it is time to fight. Why is it that U.S. citizens who are against illegal immigration will not even have a one week economic boycott. One week, seven days is all I am talking about. Tell the newspaper about it. We can all pick a date. Only buy what is absolutely necessary. Food and medicine. No going to restaraunts, no shopping for clothes, shoes, etc. All non-necessities are out. And let the people at the newspaper know that the one week boycott is just the beginning. Either this country will value it's citizens and legal residents or they will value the illegal immigrants more. Show them who has more buying power.
That is all they understand. It's now or never.

Why some members of the Utah Legislature insist -- year after year -- on targeting illegal immigrants who pay in-state tuition at Utah's colleges and universities is beyond us. Perhaps they do it because patting themselves on the back for their moral superiority feels so good. Perhaps they use the issue as a sop to throw to the Minuteman crowd so they won't muddy the Capitol steps with protests.

At last, someone on the other side admitting they're on the moral low ground with this issue.
