Giuliani says gun control helped reduce N.Y. crime

SACRAMENTO -- Rudy Giuliani addressed a potentially troublesome issue with conservative voters, saying his policies as mayor to get handguns off the street helped reduce crime in New York.

"I used gun control as mayor," he said at a news conference Saturday during a swing through California. But "I understand the Second Amendment. I understand the right to bear arms."

He said what he did as mayor would have no effect on hunting.

Addressing another potential trouble spot with conservatives, Giuliani spoke in favor of a border fence, saying, "You have to have secure borders, you have to have a fence, and the fence I think has to be a highly technological one."

The nation needs to know, he said, who is coming into the country and why. But he provided scant details on how he would deal with illegal immigrants already in the country. Citizens, he added, should be able to read and write English.

Giuliani was to make an address Monday in Silicon Valley and he was to appear Tuesday at an agricultural fair in the Central Valley.

Asked when he would make a formal announcement that he is a candidate for the Republican nomination, Giuliani said: "Well, formally announce? I don't know."

He then alluded to making an announcement in multiple locations "so we get more attention" but provided no details.

Not only did he use gun control in new york city, he filed a nuisance lawsuit against the gun industry, using the tactics of the brady campaign to put gun makers out of business via lawsuits:

And not content to have gun control only in new york, he called for a federal ban on ALL "assault weapons" and wanted nationwide handgun licensing - presumably as draconian as new york's laws:

Love those cards! I laugh everytime I see them. Not a chirp as expected from the rino rudy crowd. They must be waiting for instructions.

It does NOT have a damn thing to do with hunting

Just had to change that line as it was the center of your point.

But according to the Giuliani Fan Club you must vote for Giuliani because Hillary will take away your guns, Muslims are going to move into your community, and White Dems will lynch black people.

Agreed about the hunting thing.

Right to bear arms means that I have the right to defend myself if under attack, whether it's a thief, rapist or terrorist.

There will come the day in this country when we will all need to be able to defend our person and property against terrorist because they are here among us in their cells and they are waiting to be activated. I pity the poor people of NYC who will be totally helpless.

I'm no fan of Hilary but, unlike Guiliani, she, at least, has actually used a gun.

Giuliani, I suspect, is just deeper into the echo chamber than any of the other front-runners: he’s read so many times that doing a competent job after 9/11 makes him a “hero” that he believes it himself.

There, more complete now.

He needs to read the 1982 Senate Report on the Second Amendment and Gun Facts 4.0. Then he'll be up to speed. But will he get on track?

We could also improve gubmint crime fighting ability by getting rid of that damn pesky 4th Amendment, too.

I wonder if Rudi would approve.

But "I understand the Second Amendment. I understand the right to bear arms."

He said what he did as mayor would have no effect on hunting.

Rudy, you don't understand JACK!! The Founding Fathers, who had only a few years earlier completed a fantasticly savage, bloody and expensive war against the then-most powerful empire on Earth (which war had started, BTW, when the British tried to seize militia armories in Lexington and Concord), were engaged in building a nation. The Constitution laid out the structure of our government, and the Bill of Rights (the other 9 Amendments, that is) made it clear that there were certain liberties that were SO IMPORTANT that government could not be allowed (or only allowed in dire circumstances) to infringe upon.

So why, oh great, all-knowing Rudy, do you think that these people would have given a rat's @ss about the right of some guys a couple hundred years later to shoot Bambi or Donald Duck?

PUHLEEEEEEZE!! Either you're an idiot, or you think that the rest of us are idiots...and either way, you aren't getting my vote in the primaries. And YES, on this one issue - LIBERTY - I am a 1-issue voter. If you don't trust us, then why should we trust you?
