Giuliani: Gun control helped lower crime

Rudy Giuliani addressed a potentially troublesome issue with conservative voters, saying his policies as mayor to get handguns off the street helped reduce crime in New York.

"I used gun control as mayor," he said at a news conference Saturday during a swing through California. But "I understand the Second Amendment. I understand the right to bear arms."

He said what he did as mayor would have no effect on hunting.

Addressing another potential trouble spot with conservatives, Giuliani spoke in favor of a border fence, saying, "You have to have secure borders, you have to have a fence, and the fence I think has to be a highly technological one."

The nation needs to know, he said, who is coming into the country and why. But he provided scant details on how he would deal with illegal immigrants already in the country. Citizens, he added, should be able to read and write English.

Giuliani was to make an address Monday in Silicon Valley and he was to appear Tuesday at an agricultural fair in the Central Valley.

Asked when he would make a formal announcement that he is a candidate for the Republican nomination, Giuliani said: "Well, formally announce? I don't know."

"His victory will be similar to Reagans second election landslide."

Oh, that's good. You think this Rino clod can take 49 states? The true believing leftists and the women who watch "The View" and all our newly immigrated and much beloved citizens from the south are now going to reject one of their own? And for a guy that wants to sound like he's in both camps at the same time?

I love the Giulianites' attitude. "Screw the right. Join our Rino cause or you get Hillary." Yeah, that will really get us up on election day. It may go 49 states all right, for the Democrats. You think the last election was a bloodbath, nominate this guy.

Yes, the "technological" fence is just a slightly fancier term for the "virtual" fence, which in plain ol' English means "No fence at all."

Rudy told the cops to search or pull over anybody who looks like they were carrying an illegal handgun.

In NYC, just about every handgun is illegal (except those carried by the cops or the elite).

I think Giulianna is gonna go the way of the 2004 heir apparent Dr. Scream.

"Sorry, Rudy ... you just lost this voter. The 2nd Amendment is more than the right to hunt. And speaking of Hunting and HUNTERS, Duncan, count me in!"

Welcome aboard!! Real conservatives don't have to nuance their positions on the right to keep and bear arms!

That view will insure A second President Clinton. Politics is sometimes about tough choices. Giuliani may not be the conservative you prefer but in the end you will vote Giuliani. The reason is clear. The idea of a second Presdient Clinton is an abomination.

"Once in office practical politics will move Giuliani to the right."

What's the color of the sky in your world?? Both chambers of Congress are rat controlled and barring a miracle will remain so past 2010. "Practical politics" will cause Giuliani to tilt to the LEFT rather than the right to "accomplish" anything.

In NYC, you need a permit for your long guns.

Notice how the Rudy worshippers credit him with SINGLE-HANDEDLY bringing down the crime rate in NYC? Never a mention of Bill Bratton or the thousands of other LE personnel involved in the achievement.

You assume much to assert that Rudy will get the Republican nomination.

Excellent post.

I don't want Rudy but if he is the one who can beat Hitlery then I will back him

However, he STILL needs a conservative VP like Hunter or Sessions.

You have a choice, vote Giuliani or say hello to a second Clinton presidency. So what's it gonna be?

Nothing about the Second Amendment to see here. We've got to "think outside the box" when it comes to candidates...< sarcasm off >

It's like a present day "Windows 9#" (AIR technology, which doesn't yet exist) of the PRETEND-WE'RE-SERIOUS-ABOUT-BORDER-SECURITY crowd, of which RINO-rudy, and unfortunately, our current COMPASSIONATE CIC, George Bush, are "proud' members of.

I hope Joe Lieberman runs for POTUS too. Then the Rudybots can vote for either party and get the same. "Strong on the WOT, liberal on every other subject".

"Go Rudy Lieberman!"..."Go Joe Giuliani!"

Feh....

Holy crap.

I used to tell myself that even a RINO like Rudy was better than Shrillery or whoever the dems put up. He would stop the dem's more insane impulses, and at least he's OK on GWOT.

I've finally disabused myself of that notion. I think I'm finally to the "no vote for POTUS" if he or McCain gets the nomination. I used to think people who sat it out were giving in to the dems, weren't doing their part, but cripes, he's too far over.

This argument has been made over and over again the last few days and is simply false.

He does not yet have the nomination. (And never will, I hope.)

Forget it! You are talking to the wrong crowd here! Anyone who appreciates their guns and their right to have them is not buying his crap. I have read lots of posts about Guilianni, but this article really set me off. The nerve of the man!

"I used gun control as mayor," he said at a news conference Saturday during a swing through California. But "I understand the Second Amendment. I understand the right to bear arms."

But won't we need hundreds of new government employees as the criminals -- there's got to be ten or twenty million of them -- rush to register or turn in their guns?

Golly gee. I hope President Giuliani gives them enough time. I'm sure they don't want any more bad marks on their records.

Maybe he could arrange for temporary Mexican help as part of his lucrative contracts with his Mexican associates.

If the left-wing media, liberal poll-pushers, and other various and sundry dolts, goofballs, idiots (go vote in New Jersey), and their ilk keep trying to push RINO-rudy down our throats, it MAY be hillary.

Is that what you want?

Because that is exactly what you may get if you keep this sh*t up.
