ROCKVILLE, Md. - Counseling officials in Maryland are being heavily criticized for introducing a lesson to four different schools in which students were supposed to chew and pass around the same piece of gum.
The lesson was created by the Rockville (Md.) pregnancy counseling center in order to show students how easily sexually transmitted diseases are spread from person to person.
A speaker from the counseling center asked students to chew the same piece of gum to see how many would be willing to do it. School officials say at least 100 students participated in the exercise, but not all of them chewed the gum.
The countys director of school health services called the lesson unsanitary and unacceptable. Many parents were also angered by the issue.
School officials say employees from the counseling center will not be asked to speak to their students again in the future.

I'm intrigued by the somewhat strange title "counseling center". They never actually name the organization. I'm inclined to believe it is probably an "alternative lifestyle" group.

Should make these 'counselors' lick some public toilets for an enhanced taste test.

Silly activity, but a fairly good analogy.
If it scared them away from sexual promiscuity, I've no objections.

I would hope not.... I really am shocked there could be so many morons in a few schools, the group that thought of this gross idea and the stupid board of ed. Out of all these people not one was smart enough to just say no to this filthy idea? At least some of the kids didn't chew it. I shudder to think of the school nurses.

You know that thread you were on about the mom and her boyfriend who boinked each other in front of her nine year old daughter to teach her about sex? I think she must be on this counseling team. LOL

It's even more disgusting that students actually participated in this. Perhaps education on proper hygiene is necessary for those individuals.

Do you really think that kids who are having sex are going to pay attention to this stupid idea? How do you figure that the dumb kids who chewed the gum are not going to indulge in sex? If they chewed someone else's gum they are DUMB! They have no sense whatsoever. This isn't going to teach them anything unless they caught something. It tells me that we better worry about what loonie groups come into our schools and teach our children.

It is scary ...Common sense is gone ...I can't even see how the school nurse let this go on. I don't see where it teaches teens anything. Not unless it teaches them to obey any stupid order from a teacher. This would be a time I would be happy to have my child get a F. I can't figure out if this was just to see how many dumb kids would chew it or how smart kids said no. Either way I would be a parent who would be demanding answers. What if your child did it and got really sick, who is responsible now?

Ahh! I would bet you are totally correct. Didn't even think of that. All the more disgusting. Paid for by the ACLU. "Free" to the schools. The plot thickens. What a mess our country is in. It's as if we have all been sprayed with mounds of silly string.

This is the funny side of the mentally deranged leftists infecting our country. They don't know chewing gum from shinola about educating children.

Honestly, I doubt more than a handful of them actually chewed it. It sounds like participation in this was totally voluntary.
If they taught it right, it should have given an "eww, gross," factor to promiscuous sex. Also, it sounds to me like this was one of those rare wake-up-and-pay-attention things that actually drives a message home and gives the kids something to remember. This is a very effective way to teach and, like I said, hopefully it will discourage some sexual activity. Maybe you guys are forgetting, but that's a good thing. God knows the way they teach sex ed now is working out just fine...

Yeah they named it.
The Rockville Pregnancy Center is an evangelical medical clinic specializing in pregnancy and counseling. It was formed by a group of Christians from different churches in Montgomery County under the leadership of founder, Gail Tierney, for the purpose of offering positive alternatives to abortion for women facing unplanned pregnancies, healing from a past abortion, and empowering them to choose a healthy life style.

lmao...I don't doubt it.... At this point I would believe anything...... I will have to ask some of the posters on that thread over that movie Thats a Family if this group in MD is linked to any of these gay agenda groups like Garden State Equality Group. It has become unreal what these loonie groups try to teach our children...And we fund them too.GRRRR

You're probably right. I read several years ago about a "game" to teach people how to AVOID AIDS. It involved handing out papers with symbols on them.
It's actually very effective.
It looks as though gum was used as a symbol and some parents got the story wrong.
