As president, I will complete the border fence in six months."
(Excerpt) Read more at time-blog.com ...
I got a real lesson in this with a friend running for the OHIO legislature, who got creamed. "Right" positions aren't even close to being enough.
The hard-core criminals don't go to jobs. They steal, rape and murder.
If you run on that issue and win, you have power to get the funding. The people have spoken!
You know, even if it takes him 4 years!... What's important here is "the attitude" of someone who HAS ALREADY DONE A LOT even if just as congressman. That to me means CREDIBILITY!
As supposed to BS of someone who just tells you what you want to hear at the proper time... Which is what I expect from your average politicians I am sad to say. Conviction is not something I expect from politicians... I hope we the people, raise the standars on the king people we elect.
I am the HUNTER... I am not just a talker... I have a record!... Take a good look!
:)
1) RR had established himself as a national presence for 20 years before running in 1976 and barely losing the GOP nomination.
2) From his position as governor and on TV and in movies, RR was a household name. I guarantee you, DH isn't even a California-wide name.
3) RR had built up a vast network---which you allude to---of grass roots support from his 1976 run, including "chits" that politicians everywhere owed him. GW Bush spent two years currying the favor of governors and state party machinery before he ran, as did Clinton.
There's time to get noticed. Stars are created these days in a nanosecond.
There's a thousand old farts like that in this town.
Too true, here's a great example.
I heard this guy call into Boortz and he was talking about conservative candidates. Boortz asked him which Pubbies had thier act together enough to be worth considering and he says McCain!?! Then Boortz points out McCain's anti free speech bill and the guy had no idea. He also mentioned that he is a Libertarian or usually votes that way when Boortz said he'd probably vote Lib instead of R.
People just have no idea. All they remember is the name the MSM throws out over and over and over.
When the Media shuts out all of the conservative candidates and only gives mention to McLame, Rudy and Romney that's all most people will know.
You nailed it.
But it's a moot point. This guy has zero chance, and it has to do with the fact that he is a novice and obviously hasn't thought through what it takes to seriously run for president the way GW Bush, Ronald Reagan, and even Bill Clinton did. Now, if he's doing all this for 2012 or beyond, then it makes sense.
Big ole BUMP.
Fences are one answer.
All of what you say is true; it still does not explain how in any way, shape, or form Hunter today compares even to Reagan in January, 1980. RR was the near-nominee in '76. He had lots and lots of press coverage; most of it was negative. But his name recognition was very high.
Guaranteed: 95% of the American people have never heard of Duncan Hunter.
How's he going to overcome that? Especially given that the liberal media is not going to help.
Teddy Roosevelt and Harry Truman were already famous for stuff they had done in public service before they got anywhere near the White House.
Duncan needs to stay on message. This is the message which will produce a win of the Presidency.
No, it helps to be inscrutably honest, too. It seemed that Ohio GOP had a real problem with that.
That doesn't mean you should dismiss him out of hand!
You are dreaming.
If Duncan Hunter is elected President of the US in 2008 I will wager my entire life savings of just over $300,000 against a bet on your part of $100.00.
Do we have a bet?
