A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Welcome to TGIF at the Finest! We hope you've been having as much fun as we have with our essays and/or spotlight on various FReepers. From the beginning, we've been kicking back on Saturdays and Sundays and simply reviewing the features of the week; our weekend threads now start on Friday and continue through Sunday. If you missed seeing any of this week's threads and want to say hello there now, just click on the link for that particular day. If you'd like to drop in and out of this thread today through Sunday, please feel free to do that also. One of us will try to be around to see the welcome mat is still out, put the coffee pot on, and maybe even bring fresh flowers for the table. : )

"Wear Red" Friday
You will soon see a lot of people wearing Red on Fridays. Here's why..... The Americans, who support our troops, are the silent majority. We are not "organized" to reflect who we are, or to reflect what our opinions are. Many Americans, like yourself, and all their friends, simply want to recognize that Americans support our troops. Our idea of showing our solidarity and support for our troops is starting Friday and continuing on each and every Friday, until this is over, that every red-blooded American who supports our young men and women, WEAR SOMETHING RED.
Word of mouth, press, TV -- let's see if we can make the United States, on any given Friday, a sea of red much like a home football game at a University. If every one of our memberships share this with other acquaintances, fellow workers, friends, and neighbors, I guarantee that it will not be long before the USA will be covered in RED - and make our troops know there are many people thinking of their well-being. You will feel better all day Friday when you wear Red! So let's get the word out and lead by example; wear RED on Fridays.
SUPPORT OUR TROOPS! WE LIVE IN THE LAND OF THE FREE, BECAUSE OF THE BRAVE. FOR US, THEIR BLOOD RUNS RED!! GOD BLESS AMERICA.
I received this in my email June 10th, 2006 - the author is unknown. I am wearing red today and every Friday ~ Billie

That is a darling picture. Thats just what we do. Eat, sip, talk and laugh. We also complain 'we don't like our hats or we don't like to wear hats'. After our hat lunch, the hair is dead!! hehe. I may borrow your pic to send to the 'ladies'.

Of course! I am old enough to remember when we all wore hats.
;)
A hat can ruin a good hairdo but it can also hide a bad one!

LOL How true. :) Good Morning Meg
How are you today? I love those adorable tea party bears!
I have a lot of birds at the feeder this morning. Word is getting around ;). The Gold Finches are here, even though I have not seen them yet. I've heard them and have filled the feeder 2 times. How is your weather? Has it warmed up yet?

O..I am so glad they have found you!..It was warm..now it's a chilly 40 degrees..
I had an exciting bird day yesterday..A small flock of Robins came to drink (about 20)..and there were two cedar waxwings that were with them..I believe the usual flock of waxwings have been here as every youpon berry and photinia berry was gone when I got home from my daughter's the last of January.
Robins will eat nandina..but the red berries are still on the bushes at the front and in the ravine so they must not have been hungry..I hated to have to attend to the business of the day yesterday lest I miss something!
I haven't had any goldfinches..but I do have house finches. My mystery bird is surely an orange crowned warbler. I have really studied him and that's the only olive colored small bird I can find.
6 squirrels have vacuumed up all the seeds I put on the patio this morning..O well!

:) Thats great! I have seen Robins here flock when they were looking for food. What a sight! Your yard sounds busy and exciting. I think I told you, my mission is to see Cedar Waxwings. :) I will have to plant berrying bushes. Cedar Waxwings should be coming through in March. There's a wildlife sanctuary where I'll go search to see them. Only 2 squirrels here, so far ;).
Glad you figured your mystery bird out. Warblers can be so difficult to ID.

Whats The Cost?
READ: Luke 14:25-33
What things were gain to me, these I have counted loss for Christ. Philippians 3:7
Years ago when Romania was under the control of Communism, Bela Karolyi coached gymnastics. He skillfully developed the talents of stars such as gold-medalist Nadia Comaneci. For his success in training athletes who were bringing fame to his Iron Curtain country, he was rewarded with an expensive car and many other favors. But Bela hungered for freedom. So one day, carrying only a small suitcase, he resolutely walked out of Romania into penniless liberty.
Theres also a cost in following Jesus and experiencing the freedom He gives. When fishermen Peter and Andrew heard Jesus call, "Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men," they "immediately left their nets and followed Him" (Matt. 4:19-20). Similarly, James and John left their father and their livelihood to embark on a precarious life of discipleship. They knew the cost and chose to follow Jesus, leaving everything behind (vv.21-22).
What an example for all of us who claim to be disciples of Jesus! He said, "Whoever does not bear his cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple" (Luke 14:27). Are we willing to make sacrificesmajor and minorfor our Lord? Lets respond to the Saviors invitation, "Follow Me," not merely in word but in action.
Jesus calls meI must follow,
Follow Him today;
When His tender voice is pleading,
How can I delay? Brown

When we follow Jesus, all of life changes direction.

How are things over your way, weatherwise??
To: WVNan; La Enchiladita
We are well weather wise.. All the snow is either south or east of us. Only 8 inches here but it has been very cols, in the single digits.. with wind brings it below zero.
It was 20 yesterday and today so it feels warm.. : )
The lake is almost frozen over now so the snow will subside for most. Spring is not far away and I'm ready for it..
I hope all is well with you guys too. Nan it was good to see your name, and smiling face.. God Bless.
