HOLLYWOOD, Fla. - Anna Nicole Smith, the former Playboy playmate whose bizarre life careened from marrying an octogenarian billionaire to the untimely death of her son, died Thursday after collapsing at a South Florida hotel, one of her lawyers said.
Smith, 39, collapsed and was unresponsive while staying at the Seminole Hard Rock Cafe Hotel and Casino, said the attorney, Ron Rale. She was rushed to a hospital.
"She checked in Monday at 8 p.m. as a guest. She was due to check out tomorrow," said Danielle Giordaano, a spokeswoman for the hotel.
Smith had been a tabloid staple even before she became Playboy's playmate of the year in 1993. Readers were fascinated by her bombshell good looks, her marriage to an elderly billionaire and subsequent court fight over his estate, her weight fluctuations, and last year, the sudden death of her 20-year-old son, Daniel Smith.
A former topless dancer, she made her name squeezing into Guess jeans. She resembled the late actress Marilyn Monroe, a similarity played up in her Guess magazine ads, billboards and department store displays.
In 1994, she married 89-year-old oil tycoon J. Howard Marshall II, the head of oil-based Koch Industries, which is part of a family fortune worth at least $400 million.
He died in 1995, setting off a feud with her former stepson, E. Pierce Marshall, over whether she had a right to his estate.
A federal court in California awarded Smith $474 million in a complicated legal twist that began after she declared bankruptcy. That was later overturned.
But in May, the U.S. Supreme Court revived her case, ruling that she deserved another day in court in her battle with her former stepson.
The justices said only that federal courts in California could deal with her case despite a Texas state court ruling that Marshall was the sole heir to the estate.
Then, the stepson died June 20 at age 67. But the family said the court fight would continue.
Daniel Smith died Sept. 10 in his mother's hospital room in the Bahamas, just days after she gave birth to a daughter.
An American medical examiner hired by the family, Cyril Wecht, said he had methadone and two antidepressants in his system when he died. Low levels of the three drugs interacted to cause an accidental death, Wecht said.
Meanwhile, the paternity of her now 5-month-old daughter remained a matter of dispute.
She was born Vickie Lynn Hogan on Nov. 28, 1967, in Houston, one of six children of Donald Eugene and Virgie Hart Hogan.
She married Bill Smith in 1985, giving birth to Daniel before divorcing two years later.
You may have seen this, if not, here it is..
If True,, The question will be accidental or..?

Friday Morning Autopsy Expected To Shed More Light (CBS) LOS ANGELES -- CBS 2 has learned that while searching Anna Nicole Smith's hotel room late Thursday afternoon investigators found two key pieces of evidence -- illegal narcotics and prescription medications. Now, a toxicology report will determine whether one of these drugs or a combination of both substances contributed to her death. An autopsy is scheduled for Friday morning in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
Hi Sacajaweau!
From the interviews I saw with people who knew her, he was controlling. And I suppose the drugs made her dependant on him.
Did you see the interview on Hannity where a decorator said that Stern never wanted anyone around her....he made sure she didn't have the same decorator or hairdresser or friends very long so she couldn't get "close" to anyone.
report I heard earlier, she got their Monday, they were looking for a boat, she had flu-like symptoms for a couple days, didn't leave the hotel room a lot as she wasn't up to being approached in public about her life of late and recent travails.
not sure about the legal and medical details,, I agree, it stinks.
"manipulative sociopath lawyer" or "typical lawyer"?
Same difference.
The whole thing reminds me of the Terri Schiavo case/
He was there.
I tuned out Geraldo not long after Willowbrook.
I wonder what the extradition laws are between the U.S. and the Bahamas.
Was it a legal marriage?
I think he killed the son and her for the $$$.
#254 She looks totally out of it and ole Larry looks like he's up to soemthing ... love to know what was in that drink.
OK. MM was fluff 80% of the time but the other 20% she was genuinely good. The Misfits, Some Like It Hot, Asphalt Jungle (small role), Niagara...as good as anyone could have been in those roles.
She was barely able to speak, Howard was next to her with this bizarre strained stare at her.
Howard was always Ann'a 'go-fer'. ..taking her abuse and ridicule all in for a claim to the Anna Lottery.
It will be interesting if he indeed got Anna to legally marry him. If so, now he has standing to fight for Anna in court for the money and some standing in the paternity fight even though he is not the biological father.
Maybe Paris Hilton can put on a few pounds and get the role on Anna in the upcoming movie?
What's horrendous about it? Why should someone who marries and then divorces someone with a lot of property be entitled to half of that property? The way the law works, if I owned a bull and a cow, and I got married, the bull and the cow would still be 100% mine, but any calves they produce would be 50% mine and 50% the spouse's. The only other exception to community property is inheritance. Any property I inherit during a marriage is separate property.
Right you are.
"manipulative sociopath lawyer" = "typical lawyer"
Perhaps, maybe they were just jealous of the attention. Many famous actresses at that time and in previous eras did what could be considered "pinup" type work, Jean Harlow, Rita Hayworth, Betty Grable, Jane Russell, among others.
I would imagine any person of breeding would have actually considered a career as a dancer or actress to be low class. Unless one became rich I suppose lol
I thought Smith was a fine figure of a woman who made a few decisions which led to her being on a very painful treadmill. Her sons death could have easily avoided if she had a conservative in her life, but she just wasn't lucky enough on that score.
She does not deserve the treatment she is getting here. I liked the woman and rooted for her constantly, even here. But we are all born to die, some earlier than others. Too bad she left us so soon. Many of us will miss her. I will look her up when I get to the big H. We'll have a few drinks on the house.
I didn't know about her 10 year-old son who died from drugs (methodone + two antidepressants) - what the heck is going on with a 10 year old to be taking TWO anti-depressants and methodone?
So much for the TrimSpa ads....
