Al Qaeda in Iraq Crumbling: al Masri on the run (48hr report)

Al Qaeda in Iraq Crumbling: al Masri on the run

Coalition forces in Iraq have delivered a series of stunning blows to al Qaeda in Iraq in the last 48 hours.

A key aide to Abu Ayyub al-Masri, the man who replaced Abu Musab al Zarqawi as the leader of al Qaeda in Iraq, has been captured south of Baghdad. As A.J. Strata notes, the trail to the al Qaeda leader is fresh: the captured aide admitted to meeting with al Masri yesterday.

Since Taji is north of Baghdad, these two al Qaeda IED cell leaders captured by the U.S. in West Taji are not the same as those above. That's four al Qaeda leaders captured.

But four is such a lonely number. A facilitator of foreign fighters was captured by the Iarqi Army on the Syrian border. And foreign fighters tend to mean al Qaeda.

Not to be outdone by the IA, the U.S. struck two houses where foreign fighters had gathered---13 jihadis dead. An "individual" associated with foreign fighter facilitation was in the targeted area.

But wait, that's not all. Coalition Forces conducted an air strike Wednesday targeting an al-Qaida in Iraq-related vehicle-borne improvised explosives devices network near Arab Jabour. Intelligence reports indicated that this network is responsible for a large and devastating number of VBIED attacks in the Baghdad area. They are also responsible for IED and sniper attacks conducted against the Iraqi people and Iraqi and Coalition Forces. Building destroyed, everyone inside presumably dead.

And another terrorist was captured in Taji. In addition to leading a bombing cell, he is also believed to be involved in taking Iraqis hostage and murdering them. Which would mean that he is either al Qaeda or one of the related organizations under the umbrella of the "Islamic State of Iraq".

So, we have 6 al Qaeda leaders captured, and possibly dozens more killed. All in the last 48 hours.

Do you see a pattern here? The little bastard al Masri better run and hide. Al Qaeda, you are our bitches!

So, will you see this in the news? No. You. Won't.

FYI--Abu Omar al-Baghdadi is head of "The Islamic State of Iraq". When the jihadi umbrella organization and "shadow government" of "The Islamic State of Iraq" (formerly called "The Mujahideen Shura Council") was formed by al Qaeda, it was thought that the spokesman should be Iraqi. Thus, al-Baghdadi (meaning "from Baghdad") was chosen as its "emir". But there is little doubt that the Islamic State of Iraq is just a PR gimmick. To what extent al-Baghdadi has any actual control over al Qaeda is really unknown. Not that any one at the NYT knows this.

He would be doing what every self-loving liberal does...more symbolism than substance.

The Democrats will get even more hysterical in their efforts to get us out before our fine military can finish. But it won't work. Not under this president.

Excellent. We have to be prepared for the news reports about civilians being killed and the knashing of teeth by the left. But it is far past time we took off the gloves.

I've read that if terrorists shoot at our military but get back into a car or house, they are not permitted to return fire because civilians may get killed. If that's true, let's hope that the policy has been changed.

"Can you imagine how Bill Clinton would be handling the PR aspect of this war if it were turning in our favor."

Bill Clinton would be too busy sweating over Anna Nicole's paternity test.

It looks to me like the change in the ROE, which was incidentally masked by the "SURGE", has been working rather well. I don't think the MSM types should play poker. It's not their game. Regards,

Surprisingly, even for me, who follows this stuff closely, what's the difference between the old ROE and the new ROE?

Don't get me wrong, I get your point. Republicans do the right thing for the right reasons and just expect that it will be covered in the press.

Now, think about it...what would the press do if Bush did what you just said Clinton would have done? They would mark every move as a "Mission Accomplished" moment, and fry him ...media-ly (George-ism ;-) speaking of course.

Good. Ideally, Iraqi and US forces will be able to take him out soon along with the Mahdi army.

On to victory!

re: The MSM will never let him forget the Mission Accomplished sign.

What a perfect example of how the MSM can spin a situation and turn it on its ear. They come up with the line they want to put out and from then on that's all they toe.

It is so frustrating, but damned if I can think of any way to counter the effect on people who get their news from the MSM.

I would urge the president to do more of these missions where he interacts closely with the military.

It drives them crazy that he was a full-fledged fighter pilot and flew what was, in its day, a state-of-the-art aircraft. Not only did he fly it, his fellow pilots and instructors had nothing but praise for his performance.

I would like to see him make a trip to the space station! Can you imagine what an uproar that would cause. If it were up to me he would be doing anything he could to throw it in their face. What a great day it would be when the president held a news conference from the space station!

I know it's childish, but every now and then it's fun to kick an anthill!

I think if they did it enough it might soon lose its effectiveness. Give them so much to work with that they can't hope to spin everything!

True, but it got the job done! Mustn't confuse form with function. Like so many things in life it's the perception that counts.

The leftwing media and the leftists in congress don't want alquaeda to be defeated. They want the US to be destroyed. Too strong a statement? I don't think so.

It's unfortunate when just about anyone dies who's not a terrorist or terrorist-lover, but how on earth can the death of this bimbo be more "newsworthy" than all that's going on in Iraq, etc.? When it comes to mindless, vapid sensationalism, FoxNews is as bad as any of the MSM (and sometimes worse).

you only have about two weeks before the hand-held cameras start producing tragedies.

Exactly.

First we get the stories about terrorism continuing despite the offensive. Then we get the stories about people being inconvenienced by the offensive. Then we get the 'angry Arab street' stories. And finally, the invented tragedies. Figure about 4 days per cycle.
