"Can you imagine how Bill Clinton would be handling the PR aspect of this war if it were turning in our favor."
Bill Clinton would be too busy sweating over Anna Nicole's paternity test.

Actually, if Clinton had ever been persuaded into the need for a large-scale war, he probably would have been far more aggressive than Bush, and the media would have supported him. (Just think how aggressively Clinton fought Starr, and how he had no qualms bombing civilian targets in Kosovo.)
Bush has been fighting three wars - against the insurgents, against the Dems, and against the press. He tried to fight a kinder, gentler war, and all that did was get him compared to Hitler. Now he's taking the kid gloves off because the situation is desperate. Although the media portrayed Bush as indifferent to public opinion, I think he was too sensitive to it. Now he's doing what needs to be done. I hope it isn't too little, too late.
And the Dems' position has changed, too. Despite the BS by Rep. Charlie Haggers (Waxman), and the anti-surge resolution, I think some Dems are beginning to realize that from now on they are also responsible for what happens in Iraq.
