Al Qaeda in Iraq Crumbling: al Masri on the run (48hr report)

Al Qaeda in Iraq Crumbling: al Masri on the run

Coalition forces in Iraq have delivered a series of stunning blows to al Qaeda in Iraq in the last 48 hours.

A key aide to Abu Ayyub al-Masri, the man who replaced Abu Musab al Zarqawi as the leader of al Qaeda in Iraq, has been captured south of Baghdad. As A.J. Strata notes, the trail to the al Qaeda leader is fresh: the captured aide admitted to meeting with al Masri yesterday.

Since Taji is north of Baghdad, these two al Qaeda IED cell leaders captured by the U.S. in West Taji are not the same as those above. That's four al Qaeda leaders captured.

But four is such a lonely number. A facilitator of foreign fighters was captured by the Iarqi Army on the Syrian border. And foreign fighters tend to mean al Qaeda.

Not to be outdone by the IA, the U.S. struck two houses where foreign fighters had gathered---13 jihadis dead. An "individual" associated with foreign fighter facilitation was in the targeted area.

But wait, that's not all. Coalition Forces conducted an air strike Wednesday targeting an al-Qaida in Iraq-related vehicle-borne improvised explosives devices network near Arab Jabour. Intelligence reports indicated that this network is responsible for a large and devastating number of VBIED attacks in the Baghdad area. They are also responsible for IED and sniper attacks conducted against the Iraqi people and Iraqi and Coalition Forces. Building destroyed, everyone inside presumably dead.

And another terrorist was captured in Taji. In addition to leading a bombing cell, he is also believed to be involved in taking Iraqis hostage and murdering them. Which would mean that he is either al Qaeda or one of the related organizations under the umbrella of the "Islamic State of Iraq".

So, we have 6 al Qaeda leaders captured, and possibly dozens more killed. All in the last 48 hours.

Do you see a pattern here? The little bastard al Masri better run and hide. Al Qaeda, you are our bitches!

So, will you see this in the news? No. You. Won't.

FYI--Abu Omar al-Baghdadi is head of "The Islamic State of Iraq". When the jihadi umbrella organization and "shadow government" of "The Islamic State of Iraq" (formerly called "The Mujahideen Shura Council") was formed by al Qaeda, it was thought that the spokesman should be Iraqi. Thus, al-Baghdadi (meaning "from Baghdad") was chosen as its "emir". But there is little doubt that the Islamic State of Iraq is just a PR gimmick. To what extent al-Baghdadi has any actual control over al Qaeda is really unknown. Not that any one at the NYT knows this.

You wouldn't be able to turn on the TV without seeing him touting his role in all of it.

Ya' think the DBM would bother to show President Bush if he were out there touting his role? They would use the opportunity to disparage him.

Hillary and Nancy are deeply saddened, not to mention the other Democrats...

Their entire 2008 win strategy hinges on the US losing the war in Iraq.

That guy (Harry Reid) makes my tired ache. He needs to find a real job. He must be almost beside himself with the news out of Iraq. We know he'll put his own spin on it for Nevada, to perpetuate the gloom and doom...what a *@#$%*!!

Actually, Fox News, Brit's show DID show a lot of the DemocratICKS saying today that Iraq is a failure, a lost cause...and the troops would WANT to see them put up a no confidence vote for the POTUS/CIC.

And, they said this resolution is only the FIRST STEP to having THEM run this war...and get it out of the hands of this inept POTUS....

Of course, that doesn't take into effect that Gen. Petraeus is the author of the plan...and is running this, AFTER the Senators gave him a unanimous vote to APPROVE his job!

I am beginning to wonder why the GOP and the White House has done such a pitiful job of presenting the great strides our military has made in Iraq, Afghanistan ane elsewhere. The slow dribbles on terrorists captured have been stiffled since the terrorist roundup site ended on free republic.
It is getting to be more and more difficult to find the clear stats since Straight Vermonter no longer gives us an update.
I do miss his great work.

Bush should stand next to his generals and hold a Rose Garden ceremony announcing more successful attacks against al Queida in Iraq, Afghanistan, and around the world, while briefly reminding people were are responding in self-defense in this War against militant Islam terrorists. This should be his 100th such ceremony, instead the total will remain at zero. Worst PR team I've seen in my political lifetime.

I so totally agree — it's a great frustration that his communications team is nearly non-existent.

Great work by our great troops and their leaders!! Thankful for the Internet!

just posting... not about your comment though inciteful...

tony snow should drive it home every press conference and castigate the press for backing failure in iraq... the war on terror started in afghanistan and moved to iraq... not that they will cut him a break...

we must win and the press must be instructed that they are not spectators in this conflict... if they do not convert, they are dead, if they do not submit to the slamofascist they will be beheaded... and he should start naming names... lester, your baptist minister past- dead...

helen thomas, no burka- stoning(this isn't so bad)

doofus from nbc gregory- homo-dead

"Bill Clinton would be too busy sweating over Anna Nicole's paternity test."

Actually, if Clinton had ever been persuaded into the need for a large-scale war, he probably would have been far more aggressive than Bush, and the media would have supported him. (Just think how aggressively Clinton fought Starr, and how he had no qualms bombing civilian targets in Kosovo.)

Bush has been fighting three wars - against the insurgents, against the Dems, and against the press. He tried to fight a kinder, gentler war, and all that did was get him compared to Hitler. Now he's taking the kid gloves off because the situation is desperate. Although the media portrayed Bush as indifferent to public opinion, I think he was too sensitive to it. Now he's doing what needs to be done. I hope it isn't too little, too late.

And the Dems' position has changed, too. Despite the BS by Rep. Charlie Haggers (Waxman), and the anti-surge resolution, I think some Dems are beginning to realize that from now on they are also responsible for what happens in Iraq.
