A judge Wednesday ordered a U.S. soldier to stand trial in absentia for the fatal shooting of an Italian intelligence agent at a checkpoint in Baghdad, the prosecutor said.

Spc. Mario Lozano is indicted for murder and attempted murder in the death of Nicola Calipari, who was shot on March 4, 2005, on his way to the Baghdad airport shortly after securing the release of an Italian journalist who had been kidnapped in the Iraqi capital, prosecutor Pietro Saviotti said.

The car is trying to run through a check point without stopping, going very fast, like most common terrorists, the guy shoots at the unknown car as is his job...

And then they try to prosecute him. Make no mistake, this is not Italy per say, just more mobilization from the left.

This is the car that refused to stop for the roadblock?

Perhaps we should recall our Ambassador.

Some in political circles play games, but Italy sent troops, and is a vital player in the GWOT. Example: Some fool also put out an arrest warrant against CIA agents who abducted a known threat, turns out the Italian's were themselves involved and basically handed him over to us. Things are not what they seem. Italy in all reality is on the good guy side.

Internally even in the US you have politicians like Schumer and Murtha who are willing to "play games" for their political advantage knowing their position is complete and utter BS. Italy likewise internally has people contorting and abusing the issue at hand for their personal agenda, but at the national level, Italy stands with us.

Good point.

Even better point.

I was thinking of boycotting Italian wine over this, until I realized that would mean buying more CA wine. Don't want to do that given the moonbat factor in CA. Was stuck. However, in view of your excellent points, I think I'm still OK with Italian wine and products.

French and Spanish wines and products are still verbotten with me, though.
