Sorry for the vanity, but the entrances to the Vienna International Centre (the United Nations offices in Vienna) are temporarily blocked by the police.
Apparently there is some sort of bomb threat and they're investigating.
They explained that an announcement had been made that there was some sort of bomb threat.
Ok, well keep us posted and I'll hunt around for info.
Meanwhile...

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "VIENNA, Austria: Police last month arrested a suspected ethnic Albanian extremist from Kosovo who allegedly plotted to blow up two bombs inside Montenegro's parliament building, Austrian media reported Tuesday.

ping for future.
Cars are mostly at a stand still at the entrance/exits and those visitors/staff who arrived with public transportation are being checked very closely.
Thanks. Cool webcam.
So that's where the money goes...
Ok, Schnucki, I cannot find any hard news regarding the situation.
Iran is unhappy (understatement) right now with the UN.
Just a thought.
Then maybe it's because of this guy?
The Albanian in comment 3?
Where's the obligatory "Terrorism not suspected"??
(Apparently required by law to be part of all initial reports of bombs in the US and Europe...)
Can you tell me where the VIC is in relation to the Opera House?
They worked together with the United Nations Security and Safety Service, and put measures in place to direct vehicles away from the VIC and thoroughly to check and screen incoming vehicles. At the same time, expert teams searched the VIC as well as surrounding structures.
No evacuation was ordered.
The Opera is located right downtown. Traveling by subway, the VIC is about 20 minutes away to the northeast.

UN's Vienna Office Closed Over Bomb Threat
Crime: 6 February 2007, Tuesday.
Police in Vienna have closed off the UN office in the Austrian capital, after a bomb threat came in by phone.
The building, known as UNO City, also houses the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
All vehicles passing in the area are being searched and this has led to huge traffic jams. Bomb squads have been sent to the area but have turned up nothing yet.
The Vienna office is UN's third biggest in the world after the headquarters in New York and the Geneva Office.
So bottom line Schnucki, FreeRepublic.com got the story first from you.
