"We are starting to lose our freedom," one motorist said.

So to keep you from running red lights and broadsiding my family you decide you are losing your freedom.

Ha. Ha. (McCain-Feingold, gun control, income tax, regulation, litigation, EPA..,

Ever received a $100 ticket in the mail from somewhere you had never been?
I have.

Fortunately for me, I had proof available that I was somewhere else at the time the photo of a license plate that looked similar to mine was taken on a vehicle running a light.

So, you're thinking you could be mid-intersection just .5 seconds after the light turns green??

You'd have to be crossing the limit line at the instant the light went to green, and going 30mph in order to do that, which is called "timing" the light, and is every bit as illegal as running the red.

The issue here is the reliability and accuracy of these mechanical devices, along with the willingness of law enforcement to issue citations based on not only insufficient evidence, but on insignificant and sometimes non existent evidence. I personally think red light runners ought to be pulled from their cars and beaten by those of us drivers that are endangered. But, and this is a very important but, ticketing people that are not doing anything wrong is not making anyone a bit safer. And when it is so grossly obvious that these drivers are innocent, the so called law enforcement agencies doing it become no better than their 3rd world corrupt counterparts.

We have a right to face our accusers. Who is the accuser here? The fuzzy picture of a license plate, or the person that makes up a plate number for the one he cannot read? If you have kept up with this issue, you know that in DC it is practically an epidemic, and accounts for millions in [illegally confiscated] revenue. It is literally a sick joke that is a crime.

Not only are these practices not protecting us, they are tools for corrupt agencies to steal our money and freedom.

I'm in favor of huge fines for red light runners. But only if they are caught by a person who witnessed it and can be called upon to swear under oath that he did see it. It's pretty damn easy to sit at an intersection and catch red light runners all day long.

Cities that install red-light cameras usually shorten the yellow light in an effort to make more revenue. In addition, they are usually only ticketing the car and not the driver.

Think about that.

Explain how a red light camera actually prevents someone from running a red light.
