President Bashar Assad said cooperation and negotiations between Syria and the United States could be the "last chance" to avoid full-scale civil war in Iraq.
"We're not the only player, not the single player. But we are the main player in this issue," Assad said. "So that's how we can stop the violence."
Assad praised Bush's father, saying the elder Bush had the "will to achieve the peace in the region."

"We're not the only player, not the single player. But we are the main player in this issue,"
They're also the players who constantly claim they aren't playing a part.

You mean the Syria that took a lot of the WMDs from Iraq years ago?
The Syria that has been allowing terrorist to operate from just over the border?
That Syria?
I guess some negotiators must be delusional on drugs.

My thoughts exactly. We should have taken out Syria and Iran 3 years ago.
To: jmc1969
You mean like they are in Lebanon?
Better idea, get your border with Iraq under control now Assad or a B-2 will drop a laser guided 2,000lbs bomb thur the bedroom window of your villa.
But Dream on, Most of the Congress and half the American people have all ready surrendered the War on Terror.

Oh, those stupid neocons. Now they have Syria begging on bended knees. How mean! We should negotiate from weakness, instead. sarc/ Go Bush. Go Rice. Kudos!

Yes, let's negotiate with the fox as to exactly how many hens will be eaten once we allow the fox to guard the henhouse.
I was OK in high school history. But I'm amazed at just what our so called "leaders" are doing. Un-Frigging-Believable.

But Dream on, Most of the Congress and half the American people have all ready surrendered the War on Terror.I'm afraid that I agree with you. I wonder what an acceptable level of terrorism in the US will be for these people. It seems that 3000 or so murdered on September 11, 2001 falls within that acceptable level. But then we were very lucky that day. Had the buildings been hit a bit later in the morning, say about 11:00am or so, and had both buildings come crashing right now, the death toll probably would have approached 50,000.
I suppose that a crop duster spraying a toxin over a major city, or a poisoned water or food supply might wake these people up... For a little while.

My thoughts exactly. We should have taken out Syria and Iran 3 years ago. And just were do you think your were going to get the votes to do that when half the Congress and most the American people do not even want us in Iraq?

I was just having the same thought. It appears the vast bulk of the American people are witless sheep who feel as long as THEY personally are not being eaten, how many other sheep the wolves carry off is a matter of supreme indifference to them.

Git rid of the intermeddling snakes (Syria/Iran), non government militias, and the bulk of the problem is solved.
Iraqis themselves want peace. The main player? needs a good punch in the jaw.

Problem is that most Americans are living their lives in peace and the cost of not being aware of the consequences of what is transporing in the Middle East is thinking all is glorious for us in the world when that isn't so.
