WASHINGTON - Former Sen. Jim Talent, R-Mo., is backing former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney's bid for the Republican presidential nomination, Romney announced in a statement Thursday.
Talent will serve as domestic policy task force chairman for Romney's presidential exploratory committee. Talent will oversee all domestic policy development in that position.
"With Jim's experience and extensive knowledge, he will help us look beyond the status quo and answer these challenges with bold, new approaches," Romney said.
Talent lost his bid for re-election last year to Democrat Claire McCaskill.
"Gov. Romney has shown extraordinary leadership during his many years of service," Talent said in a statement. "He has a strong conservative vision and a successful record of accomplishing that vision. I am proud to be part of his exploratory committee and ready to help him craft innovative policy solutions."
LOL.
He also has only one wife. I like that in a candidate. It's just so rare these days.
Go Mitt, Go!
He got Ann Coulter's tepid approval last night on H&C.
I'm underwhelmed.
Count me as one who was surprised at Talent's loss to the crook McCaskill. Jim was a solid conservative and will be missed in the senate.
BUMP
I was surprised too. I was convinced till election day that he'd pull it out. It wasn't till election day when Anne Northup lost that I realized quite how bad of night it was going to be.
"Your" Annie likes him best.
BTW, neither McCain nor Giuliani can claim to be both mentally stable and without skeletons.
And don't even get me started on the Democrats.
How can you possibly group Ralph Reed and Mike DeWine together?
It was a bad year and that stupid minimum wage ammendment brought out all the rat voters.
It was the perfect storm.
isn't that the truth. i have to laugh when i see a Giuliani-Gingrich ticket posited, what is that, the adultery ticket?
Yes she does...."of the frontrunners". Difference is, it is my firm belief that Annie and others should listen to me, not the other way around.
Only thing I can think of that the press can hammer him on is the Big Dig and Bechtel....but that doesn't have lasting power.
Or the "Get 37% of the popular vote" ticket.
"He also has only one wife. I like that in a candidate. It's just so rare these days."
Reminds one of other one-wifers, like Bill Clinton, Al Gore and Jimmy Carter.
"Only thing I can think of that the press can hammer him on is the Big Dig and Bechtel....but that doesn't have lasting power."
Especially when he spent practically his whole term trying to kick out Matthew Amorello and become the overseer of the project himself. He ended up looking prescient after the tunnel collapse.
Talent, Romney, Blackburn, Feeney, Ann Coulter, Laura Ingraham, Mike Gallagher, Michael Medved, Hugh Hewitt
Don't forget Hoekstra, Hastert, Demint, James Bopp, Jr. and Glenn Beck.
Ahh, the Henry VII ticket, without the beaheadings, of course.
