So how far back does the Free Republic archive articles and how can I go back and find some of the first threads that started the whole thing off ?
It struck me I've hung out for a while and it was well established when I joined.
Be fun to see what we were focused on day one. For me anyway.
LOL, yeah, you set me straight on the "chat" vs. "talking". LOL
Yeah, blowing snow warning posted overnight through tomorrow.
Yikes. Ok, gotta sign out. Good night. :0)
onyx: I don't CHAT online, I TALK. Good night.
LOL
What would a stroll down memory lane be without your presence? ;-)
Night-night! :)
Ah, the wonders of nested (marquee) tags.
"USE THE GIFT!" - TLBSHOW
Toiletman... I think that may have been a bit before my time.
But what I do remember is how you had to be vigilant about your html tags. If you left your tags open at the end of the post, the entire thread font from there on would be in italics, or white, or size 8, or whatever, until someone would correct it ("bold OFF!"). And of course there were those enterprising individuals who found ways to really screw up a thread with that technique.
As LtCG says, "Now that's funny I don't care who ya are!"

Perhaps that is the reason. I don't know.
FreeRepublic is lessor because of his absence...especially when you take into consideration the changed overall tone around here the past year or so.
I really don't think the changes in FR can be attributed to Sinkspurs's inability to post here. I trust the management. Not do I think that FR is "lessor" because of his absense. Just my opinon.
A Quidam appearance:

You can play around with these numbers to find posts on a given day and I do that sometimes myself... Say you want to find out what the pundits were saying the week before election day, 2004. Through trial and error, you'd find that you wanted to start browsing articles starting around post #1,260,000.
You can't go back to post #1 because somewhere along the line, the numbering system changed and JimRob deleted a bunch of early posts. But you can go back to the summer of '99 by looking at post #142,701. Notice you'll see what the early numbering system looked like and maybe you can figure it out and possibly go back even further?. You might be able to find lots of interesting posts, but it's gonna be difficult. Like someone else said, there was a lot of discussion in those days of the meaning of the constitution and lots of militia stuff. Much more interesting today, imo. BTW, I can't seem to find any posts before #142,701, fwiw.
You forgot to add -- "Don't use an account that was created that day, lest you be called a newbie troll."
Maybe you're just preachin' to the converted.
BUMP for later.....I was on Prodigy when my sons told me about FR. I lurked for over a year before registering in '98....addicted now. LOL
LOL
(finally catching up :>)
Someone posted it here on Freep once. It`s a part of Alexa.com which also tells you a websites ranking. For example Yahoo.com is the #1 website in the world (despite what communist sympathizers Google.com say)
http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details?url=yahoo.com
MSN is #2
http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details?url=msn.com
and communist butt kissing, US hating, but they have no problem having their base in the US, Google is #3

If I'm remembering correctly he/she/it posted about there being a "host over the sun" as he/she/it had been staring at the sun. That was also one of the last threads CGEB posted (I think).
The only reason I started to pay any attention to CGEB was because I found the screen name to be somewhat disconcerting...not sure why but maybe because I'm a green eyed blonde and the classy part didn't quite ring true given the profile of CGEB.
Strange person that CGEB was!
The Haiku guy was Quidam. it was going to be a Tsunami that swept Clinton out.
