Origins of Free Republic
Self

So how far back does the Free Republic archive articles and how can I go back and find some of the first threads that started the whole thing off ?
It struck me I've hung out for a while and it was well established when I joined.
Be fun to see what we were focused on day one. For me anyway.

No one dared signup and post on the same day.Not exactly since that is what I did. In fact the same night I got the boot from the New York Times board for delivering unwanted salient facts to the admin guy there I was posting here. But then again, I have a tendency to lead with my chin.

Rivero and I were as one when it came to a certain Serbian election, when he accidentally fell into sanity. He had a "Joos" issue though, as a lagniappe to attend his worries that the US was the new Hitler on the planet.

I had a favorite poster --- can't think of his screen name -- Arte Funkle? Something like that.

I think that Ann Coulter was likely an early poster.
I picked up her book the 1st week it was out, in July 2002. I read that work in just a couple of days.
After finishing her book, I looked up this site a day or so later.
Curious, that I had been on the Internet for 8 or 9 years before that and had never run into this site before her mention of it.

LOL! Right. I did a search here one time for my name and found nothing, thankfully. :0)

And who was that guy we argued with all the time and then he died and we were crushed?

I was using WebTV, so I had a lot of trouble. Once I got a computer, I never had trouble again and with a new e-mail address, I signed on as onyx. Using WebTV, I used my own first name --- not a good idea. I blew my shot at having a cool handle. I honestly didn't think I'd be a long-term poster, so I just used my middle name in the beginning. Now I shall be Marie forever! (and I *hate* my middle name!) ;-)

Sinkspur gave me the courage, after some private freepmails, to join the fray, which at that time was filled with a high percentage of serious kooks. I miss the guy.

The Wayback Machine Captures a few threads. try it.
I was a lurker for some time. then came the March for Justice. I remember hopping in a car and driving for (quite a few) hours to arrive in time for the Rally on the Mall.
The forum has changed a bit since then. But, for a time, this place has had some finely tuned minds contributing to the better benefit.
P.S. I really would like to see the old pic of Eschoir in a bug outfit posted again. The first time I saw that graphic, I fell out of my chair laughing ('Wheel of Eschoir', I think it was titled).
