Jan 31, 2007 — About 98 percent of Harley's nearly 2,800 unionized workers have voted to strike. The contract expires at 12:01 a.m. Friday, and picketing will begin at that time, union representatives said.
Discussions on the proposed labor contract began at 9 a.m. today in the Toyota Arena at the York Expo Center, where the members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Local 175 met.
If I were going on a couple 1000 mile runs, then yea, chaps would probably be beneficial. But putting around town going 7-10mph...give me a break!

Hopefully that 'vital' area will never skid across pavement! And I'll agree that to protect the skin from road rash and leave the noggin exposed defies all sorts of logic.
What I think bothers the both of us is the guy who rides one or two days a month (and only during the warm months!) but has every type of appearal gear available. For him, riding is about putting on a costume and being in a parade on weekends.
My bikes are my primary transportation (55 mile rt commute) and I have to ride share when it rains badly.
You are correct. There is no reason other than corporate corruption that executive pay and benefits should remain untouched while workers are asked to take concessions.
Forgetting the labor issues, it is a bad business move to do so. The company will never get back what it thinks it will gain. A happy workforce is a productive workforce.
Greater chance of a spill in a group ride than on your own on the highway.

Been there done that...1974 outside of Aberdeen, Maryland. Me and my wife, 35mph, rounding the corner to get onto the interstate. Luckily no serious injuries to persons or bike.
Done quite a bit of group riding but we always tried to stay ahead of traffic. No fun looking into your mirror and seeing cars trying to jockey for position around you because you're a traffic hazard.
Hey...is this thread a rehash of the Harley one about 8 months ago. I thought the union settled and approved a new contract...how long are their contracts good for? 1 year?

Solo riders don't understand how much different it is to carry a passenger.
A few months ago our group had a picnic and set out some cones for skills practice. Oddly enough I was better with my passenger than solo.
It was a statement of fact.
I hardly think making money, either as a corporation or an individual is a bad thing or unAmerican.

My son refused to go to get a job in the local grocery markets because you are forced to join a union.

The MSRP for a Screaming Eagle VROD is $19,995 with the other models coming in at the mid $15k and up (www.h-d.com) and pumps out 145 HP. Unless this was a Suzuki Hyabusa I doubt a $3,500 street cruiser would beat it unless it had some serious street sleeper modifications...
BTW I ride a '05 Springer Softtail (88 ci more low end torque) and regularly smoke my girlfriends '04 Victory Vegas (92 ci more HP but less low end torque) in the street light drags but she can take me on any road. Both bikes weigh about the same but I got a good 100 lbs on her... Of course this really pisses her off...

Yeah, she continued to ride...no problems...just the risks of riding. Dodged the bullet. I'm a true believer in the phrase "I don't go faster than my angel can fly"...80mph on the freeways is very comfortable.

Yea, MSRP of $20,000 then add on dealers BS fees and price bidding (thats what happens around here) and you're easily up into the $25,000 (the $26,000 is what the guy quoted). You're not saying that the only bike that can keep up with the VROD is a Suzuki Haybusa, are you?
The Suzuki may have been somewhat modded, just an I4. Somewhat like an old Yamaha XS 1100.
Torque is where its at!!
