Jan 31, 2007 — About 98 percent of Harley's nearly 2,800 unionized workers have voted to strike. The contract expires at 12:01 a.m. Friday, and picketing will begin at that time, union representatives said.

Discussions on the proposed labor contract began at 9 a.m. today in the Toyota Arena at the York Expo Center, where the members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Local 175 met.

A great opportunity for the rice burners to increase their market share.

Kind of interesting they made the union meet at the Toyota Arena, the only unionized assembly plant used by Toyota in the United States is the plant in Fremont, California, operated by its joint venture with General Motors Corp. Must bristle them to have to negotiate there...

Any word on what the sticking points were.

IMO H-D should relocate to a RTW state like Florida.

Harley strikes York plant

That's an odd way to phrase it. How about, "Union strikes York Harley plant." ?

Maybe they can recruit some of those fine ladies who attend Bike Week to fill in during the strike.

Am I the only one who noticed this?

STUPID STUPID STUPID......

Harley is finally gaining more market share and putting itself into the mainstream of bike owners, pulling in lots of baby boomers who are really enjoying their rides in the countryside.

Unions just keep ketting dumber and dumber. One would think the troubles in the American auto industry would give them a wake up call. What a waste of a brain cell.

This company is making money hand over fist and comes to the Milwaukee workers last year and demands concessions, 2 tier wage system and knocks health benefits to hell.

I am tired of the UNION bashing on FR. They helped create the middle class in this country. YEP, the same one that is disappearing at a fast rate. Don't forget that.

I'll grant there have been issues w/ some unions throughout history. But, when a company is making mega money, is it a bad thing that workers get a stake in it?

The workers are the first ones to take the hit if it goes sour. Let's knock CEO and CO. officer pay and benefits, too. I don't hear much around here about that idea.

I have owned several HD's. I also refuse to give my business to their dealers because of the way they treat their long standing customers. It is feed the yuppies at HD now.

I didn't know that Harley was unionized. As a former union employee, I'm glad I never owned a Harley, and for sure, will not as long as these thugs infest the manufacuring floors of HD.

The bikes aren't that important. What would really hurt harley fans is if the Malaysian sweatshops stopped producing the Official Harley Licensed gear. THAT would be a DISASTER if the druggie-looking people couldn't get their OFFICIALLY LICENSED leather do-rags.

Unions deserve their fair share of the blame, but at Harley the problems go far deeper.

IMO Harley should make a technologically advanced bike that people can afford, rather than the overweight, underpowered and overpriced sow they make today.
