House Republicans complained bitterly Wednesday that they had been shut out of the secretive process in which Democrats assembled a huge spending bill to sweep clear a budgetary mess they inherited.
As the House kicked off debate on the bill, Republicans said the measure was being rushed to the floor without adequate time for lawmakers to read it and without the chance to offer changes.
The House Rules Committee, dominated by Democrats, issued a rule governing floor debate that denies Republicans any chance to amend the 137-page measure, which covers 13 Cabinet departments covering the budgets for every domestic agency except for the Department of Homeland Security.
Republicans in the Senate appeared unlikely to place procedural hurdles in its path.
Senate Republicans predicted that Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., would schedule debate close to a Feb. 15 deadline and give them little choice but to pass the bill.

This is what the Democrats do when they are in power, when they were in the minority they still succeeded in scuttling or drastically changing many Republican bills, because the Republican have been too "polite" or timid to play hardball. Obviously the Democrats "appreciated it", this is their famous "bipartisan" response.
Republicans need to do everything to get back control of Congress and once in power again, remember this and do the same to the Democrats.
The Dems are gutting defense and adding all kinds of unnecessary spending -- so this is not "just about politics" in wanting the GOP back in power, before the Democrats destroy the country.
Elections have consequences!
PS.
I hope those who didn't bother to vote or voted third party to teach "the big spending Republicans a lesson" are happy now.
Well then GOP make sure you don't lose control of the House and this won't happen. Until then cry me a river.
Spineless and gutless - our Republicans
Whatever happened to the "sunshine law"? Are not we allowed to read it?
Same old RAT tricks. What else is new?
Republicans should just all vote no in a block.
Then they can call it "the Democratic Budget" and pick and choose every earmark, stupidity and wasteful line item in it for the next year and call it the Democratic "habit of wanton waste", etc.
The GOP won't see control of the House anytime soon. Just as the dems needed a strange alignment of all sorts of factors to get their big break in 2006, the GOP will need a strange alignment of all sorts of factors to regain control of the House. The sad thing is that has almost nothing to do with them, and more to do with how the dems behave, how they are perceived, and events on the national and world stage.
Some pie-in-the-sky Freepers talked like it would be easy to regain the House after the dems screw up between 2007-2008. Not so - they have played almost everything very well so far. If the GOP regains six seats in 2006, that would be a lot.
Kiss control of the House goodbye for the next major window in time, barring dramatic events (that we have no control over).
"give them little choice but to pass the bill."
Sure the GOP has a choice! Vote NO and nitpick on every point back home.
Time for the D-Con!
HELLO Republicans! This is how politics is played. Too bad you didn't play politics when you had the chance instead of tiddlywinks.
Perhaps if they didn't spend so big they'd still have a chance to be in power?
Sounds like the kind of squawking that the Democrats did when the GOP ran the show. The more things change, the more they stay the same.
Heck, the dems also shut out the majority of fellow dems in the House. Neither side was able to make any additions to the bill. Only those few elite in power dems (the liberals) had a say in it.
I agree with your post it does not seem to matter wheter they are republican or democrat they can spend money like drunken sailors. its sad but true
You need to get a new line.
Then quit your whining, whimps.
I'd be happy if Bush vetoed every stinking bill that came down the pipe and said "sorry, you guys have stabbed my policies in the back for America and so now I'm just saying NO!"
Lucy pulls the football everytime.
