The EU abortion laws seem more stringent than the United States', though they should be even more stringent, with the potential exception of Ireland.
Not the suicide part for Ireland.
Not the suicide part for Ireland.
Shhhhh. This is something the "progressives" don't want widely known.
Please FReepmail me if you would like to be added to, or removed from, the Pro-Life/Pro-Baby ping list...
Does John Kerry support the conditions France imposes?
Stay true, Ireland.
I know. It kind of makes you wonder about what all the "we should look to Europe for are laws" type say. (nothing)
Availability: Strict conditions
Gestational limit: No set limit
Conditions: Allowed only allowed if woman's life is at risk (including the risk of suicide).
It's a ticking bomb - if they ever leglislate on the X Case Ruling, it basically mean any murdering bitch can say she is suicidal!
You can blame Roe vs. Wade for this. It guarantees a constitutional right to abortion up until the ninth month of pregnancy for any reason. This is obviously absurd. If we wanted to have a nationwide right for abortion, it would make more sense to have a minimal right, that states could add to, not an absolute right. For instance the federal government could say that women have a guaranteed right to abort in the first trimester only. Then, other states could grant further rights beyond that, such as second trimester, partial birth, etc. But to have the most extreme liberal position taken as the nationwide standard shows how convoluted Roe was.
Fyi link at post #9.
Interesting that, for the purposes of this discussion, the Holy See doesn't count as a country. I'm assuming that abortion is banned by the Vatican.
Europe also teaches about birth control in every school and hands it out free.
The Vatican probably does ban it, but the article was only for EU member states, which the Vatican isn't. (EUers--not all of them--are often quick to refer to the EU as Europe, but consider referring to the United States as America offensive to other peoples in the Americas--a bit hypocritical).
And yet abortion is murder. There are a lot of areas where American laws trump European rules--abortion generally isn't one of them.
The abortion rate in Europe is less than the US.
Among other reasons, they're having less babies. Period.
Operative word is "seem." The green ones and blue ones are the same as the purple ones--"mental health of the mother" was a blank ticket in pre-Roe America in places like California. Psychiatrists made whole practices out of certifying that a woman needed an abortion "for mental health reasons," which of course meant any reason at all. Purple, green and blue countries here are all "on demand" abortion mills.
I think that leaves only Ireland and Malta as more restrictive in reality.
