Wounded Iraq Vet Threatened, Spat on by 'Antiwar' Protesters (D.C. Chapter Report on 1/27/07)
Sunday, January 28, 2007 | Kristinn

Posted on 01/28/2007 5:37:22 PM PST by kristinn

I'm angry. I'm angry at the 'antiwar' protesters who heaped abuse on our troops. And I'm angry at the people who couldn't be bothered to stand up for our troops yesterday.

Tens of thousands of anti-American leftists and their dupes marched on our nation's capital calling for America's defeat in the war on terror in Iraq.

Only about forty people could be bothered to turn out in support of America's victory in Iraq. Among those forty was a civilian POW held by the North Vietnamese communists and several Iraq war veterans--including wounded warriors who left the hospital to stand up for their brothers in arms on the home front.

Why did former POW Mike Benge and Iraq vet Joshua Sparling only find a few dozen people willing to stand with them? Why, as the anti-American left is heading toward repeating their victory in Vietnam, are so many people sitting on their asses and doing nothing to stop them?

Why, when Joshua Sparling was spat on, cursed at and threatened by 'peace marchers', were there so few people there to defend his honor?

Why was Jane Fonda allowed to desecrate the Navy Memorial and only face token opposition?

Why did Mike Benge see thousands more people showing up to cheer Jane Fonda than there were to denounce her?

Those who were there to support these patriots will be posting their observations and photos on this thread. I've said my piece.

I'm sorry, but if you think it's farfetched that these nutbars might spit on a vet, you haven't been paying attention to this war and haven't paid attention to what happened in Vietnam.

For some reason our very presence seemed to enrage them. Go figure. They hate opposition more than they hate the things they're protesting.

I would be very surprised if indeed this happened. Most of these people were core peace activists from their home areas and too sophisticated to blame servicemen for the war.

You're kidding, right?

You have NO idea what those people are like. I have a second home in Taos, New Mexico. I am surrounded by moonbats. I've attended their "demonstrations" when I'm in town. Most "peace activists" I've encountered are the most vile, hateful and miserable people I've ever met in my life. not only would they curse and spit at veterans, they'd brag about it and justify it.

You support burning the flag, do you?

But then we all suffer in being unable to take a joke from time to time.

Taos is so beautiful, close to being my favorite place on earth; too bad so many ugly people live there.

Here in the ugly big city, with its long liberal tradition, it's easier to see why there are so many braindead lefties, but to see them in such a beauty spot as Taos Mountain and Rio Grande Gorge really hurts...

One thing the libs are very good at doing is organizing rallies. They have lots of cannon fodder for their rallies. They herd up the unemployed and those on welfare who have no jobs and lots of time on their hands. They use race baiting to get blacks to join many of their marches (or Hispanics). Or use class warfare arguments (like Charlie Wrangel's only the poor kids are in the military cr*p). The libs have a huge base to work with right in our country's capitol city. Washington D.C. is chock full of almost all libs, and chock full of many chip on the shoulder minorities. You can drum up a march in about 2 seconds with a huge pool of people to tap into instantly. Then there are the unions and other lib groups (many of them gov't funded alleged non-profit organizations) that will bus hundreds of "marchers" in from other states as well. Give them a free lunch, a few bucks, and bus them in. Then they have most of the college campuses to turn to for more hordes of young people who can skip classes (for the cause), are mostly liberal when young because they are brainwashed by 60's liberal professors raise on revolution in the streets, and who will rush to a rally at the drop of a hat for diversion, entertainment, group bonding w/other young people, and because they are politically ignorant and therefore easily manipulated.

Meanwhile, most conservative types have their nose to the grindstone, either at jobs, or at the few conservative college campuses, and most live far away from the centers of major cities (almost all of which are liberal). They can't leave their jobs at the drop of a hat because they actually HAVE a job. Many have families, children to attend to. They AREN't on welfare, aren't able to drop everything at once like the welfarers and young college kids, and therefore can't attend marches and rallies on short notice. Plus, they don't spend their lives thinking about how to organize revolution in the streets because that is not their philosophy in the first place.

Then there are the basic philosophical differences in approach; libs use talking points that are spread around amongst all their spokespeople; libs by nature are much more communal and work in hordes (it takes a village, you know). Conservatives by nature are much more individualistic (remember the rugged individualist?). We don't organize as well, and thus the libs have an advantage when it comes to getting these marches to fruition. About the only thing we do have is being the "silent majority" and rising up at the ballot box when necessary to throw the bums out. However, the MSM has now gotten so powerful in its own right that basically IT is running our country and influencing the politically ignorant amongst us on a much larger scale. The MSM, combined with the organizers of these types of marches, strikes, rallies, etc. are a double whammy that will make it much harder to overcome in the future, in particular as we have now let in so many third-worlders as immigrants, and so many illegal aliens, that the Dem ballot box grows at our conservative expense. I have a certain amount of foreboding for the future because of this. The only good I can think of is that I will be most likely dead and buried before the proverbial sh*t hits the fan, but that doesn't say much for the children of the future who aren't screwed-up by lib parents but will suffer the consequences of lib policy. However, what will be will be, the future's not ours to see...., or is it?

Bullshit
1 Where in the first Amendment does it give you the right to spit upon a serviceman, or give aid and comfort to our enemies?
2 You better give a damn about their hissy fits, they're burying us.
3 Bullshit. this is aout the flag and our servicemen
What's it going to take to get all motivated, all we find is platitudes here

If Vets came to me and said "I wanted to do this" I would discourage them anyway I could.

More than anyone, they should have the right to go where they want and do what they want.

"Discouraging them anyway" you could would be a mistake on your part. I think they have earned the right to go and protest thousands of terrorist-supporting-military-hating leftist liberal traitors.

They were planning on going even before the FR people organized their protest.

but the soldiers should not have been there.

I am stunned! Who are YOU to tell our troops where they can go? UnFReepingBelievable!

Has the Vietnam days taught us NOTHING!!??

Yes, they taught SOME of us something. Those days taught us that the troops need to stand up for themselves, because no one else will.

They taught SOME of us we can no longer sit back and laugh at the idiots in the street or shake our heads in disgust.

SOME of us learned being the "silent majority" is synonymous with being the stupid majority.

SOME of us learned if not confronted the commies will win and send our country into a downhill spiral of darkness. We cannot afford another 35 years of communist legislation and tyrannical rulings from a court.

If they're not answered and attacked, effectly, they look increasingly normal to the Sheeple, and therefore acceptable and to be taken seriously.

Well said...thank you!

Now I'm thoroughly depressed and guilt ridden. For choosing to stay by my ailing husbands side instead of leaving him to fend for himself for a minimum of three days, I can only say I'm sorry. If it had been possible I would have loved nothing more than to have been able to attend and release some of the pent up anger I feel for those disgusting, anti-American, anti-war traitors.

I wish to convey my humble apology, my thanks and 'God Bless' to those who did attend.

I was afraid that I'd remembered correctly.  Heartbreaking!

The first thread about Joshua is here: "Dear Joshua, I hope you die!" -- J. Sparling (Walter Reed patient)

The support of our troops by FReepers is appreciated.  Thank you!   To reiterate what many have said here, Military families are already carrying more than their fair share of the load in support of our freedom.  Thanks to them, also!

In mounting a substantial counter to these demonstrations,  we are at a distinct disadvantage because we're widely dispersed across the country (and overseas) - we have no financial support group(s) - we have obligations and responsibilities - the protesters set the schedule.

I am optimistic that someone here will present an effective strategy.  I suggest ideas with potential should be communicated through FReepmail rather than on the open forum.  What about a 'think tank' made up of a few known and trusted individuals to whom anyone can communicate ideas.  Suggestions can be culled and tweaked at their discretion.

I think you can take Kristinn's word for it.

Kristinn, I have no good excuse. This is one of my pet peeves. We talk and talk and talk here on FR and with people like Rush & hannity but we rarely if ever assemble en masse to voice our position. The main excuse is "conservatives have jobs, liberals don't" This doesn't wash. I really beleive that if motivated we could organize a million person march on DC and let the congress and our spineless President know how we feel. No one will ever even attempt to organize such a rally.

God Bless you and you husband. We pray for your husband.

The irritation expressed on this thread is NOT intended for those who honestly cannot attend events like this.

I rode my Harley down from Colombia MD and stood with the group of DC Chapter Freepers. I expected to see many many more counter protesters with us. We drew a lot of attention from the fist shaking crowd of losers walking by, and I was interviewed by someone on camera about Saddam and bin Laden, etc. I'm glad I showed up, and will again.
