Anti-war protesters spray paint Capitol building
The Hill ^ | January 28, 2007 | Jackie Kucinich

Anti-war protesters were allowed to spray paint on part of thewest front steps of the United States Capitol building after police wereordered to break their security line by their leadership, two sources toldThe Hill.

According to the sources, police officers were livid when theywere told to fall back by U.S. Capitol Police (USCP) Chief Phillip Morse andDeputy Chief Daniel Nichols. "They were the commanders on the scene," one source said, who requested anonymity. "It was disgusting."

After police ceded the stairs, located on the lower west frontof the Capitol, the building was locked down, the source added.

A second source who witnessed the incident said that the policehad the crowd stopped at Third Street, but were told to bring the policeline in front of the Capitol.

Approximately 300 protesters were allowed to take the steps andbegan to spray paint "anarchist symbols" and phrase such as "Ourcapitol building" and "you can’t stop us" around the area, thesource said.

Morse responded to these claims in an e-mail Sunday afternoon, explaining that the protesters were seeking confrontation with the police.

"While there were minor instances of spray painting ofpavement by a splinter group of Anarchists who were seeking a confrontationwith the police, their attempts to breach into secure areas and rush thedoors of the Capitol were thwarted," Morse said. "The graffiti waseasily removed by the dedicated [Architect of the Capitol] staff, some of whom responded on their day off to quickly clean the area."

He added, "It is the USCP's duty and responsibility to protectthe Capitol complex, staff and public while allowing the public to exercisetheir First Amendment rights … at the end of the day, both occurredwithout injury to protestors or officers."

Sounds good, but the anti-war folks don't do this by word of mouth, they have a budget of millions of dollars. Where is the millions of dollard funding a pro-war rally to pay for buses and advertising and run the media offices?

We are not committed, we haven't put our money where our mouths are. Without money, there will be no rally, a couple thousand will show up, and it will look like nobody cares.

I suspect a lot of people didn't show up saturday because it was an anti-war rally, and while a few dozen anti-rally protestors makes news (you guys showed up in several articles) if there were a thousand, it would be big enough to be noticed for how much smaller it was than the anti-war group.

Here's a story from last year about a local politician who faced TWO YEARS IN PRISON for spray-painting anti-war slogans on a public overpass.

Spray-painting politician convicted

Normally, spray-painting is considered a serious crime, because it is such a blatant anti-social act.

It is the "People's House" and we do have a right to free speech and freedom of assembly. Therefore, we the MAJORITY of the people should be allowed to assemble in counter protest and protect OUR freedom of expression- namely the pristine sanctity of the Capitol steps.

It's a disgusting sign of the times (the end times), I'm sorry to say. Where I live, a guy took it upon himself to paint a bridge in the city park - a horrible color of pink - citizens were outraged & demanded he be stopped. The kid then started saying he was painting it pink to honor "breast cancer awareness".

What did the mayor do? He gave the kid police protection until he finished slapping the paint on (and in the creek below) & lauded him for doing such a worthy thing for a worthy cause!!!!! He made this vandal a hero!!

Typical liberal thinking. Now we get to look at this not-even-well-painted pink bridge everyday. Satan's rules of chaos, night becomes day, up becomes down.......

You are absolutely correct. I posted similar sediment in another thread. And we need to get started now, but I'm not sure who, with deeper pockets than I, will start it.

Same low lifes as ever. Two generations have made no difference - oh, wait - unable to get a life or move on in any constructive way, most of these people are from that "original" generation, aren't they?

Per Brian Wilson of Fox News, they vandalized the Fox remote truck, to. Broke the windshield and plastered bumperstickers on it too. Left the CNN truck alone. Fox photographed some and they had bandana covering their faces. They are nothing but criminals -- free speech for them means only they get to speak freely, the rest of us can also -- if we don't mind being shouted down, beat up, or otherwise intimidated.

Incredible. Beating their asses would have been a good start, but just standing back and letting them vandalize government property like that is inexcusable.

Posted my reply #213 before reading all the way down this thread and seeing yours.

(p.s. Brian Williams is with NBC news, Brian Wilson is with Fox and was just promoted to VP and is now DC bureau chief, replacing Kim Schiller Hume, Brit Hume's wife, who resigned in November.)

The pro-9/11 Democrats are anti-security, anti-reprisal, and anti-victory.

They are not anti-war.

If so, we'd have heard from them during Bosnia and Kosovo.
