Today begins Ashura, which like the festival of Eid al-Adha is another bloodthirsty Muslim holiday:

Nothing better than an enemy that kills itself. I must say though; we should inform them that they are not trying hard enough, that Allah is dissappointed.
Do we need any clearer evidence that we need to take a careful, clear-eyed look at religion -- where it comes from and where it is likely to lead us?

Western culture teaches us to heal wounds. Islamic culture teaches to create wounds. Our nation cannot benefit an iota from the addition of destroyers of life to our society. Leave the Muslims where they are to drown in their own blood.
Animal sacrifices, grain offerings, eaten by the priests. God still asks us to sacrifice today. Give up the ice cream so the poor can have some. But I will say, after the temple is rebuilt, and sacrifices resume, beware of the abomination that causes desolation.

For those keeping a scorecard so you can tell the players: only the Shi'ites self-mutilate on Ashura, in commemoration of the murder of Ali, Mohammed's nephew and son-in-law, whom they regard as his legitimate successor. For all Muslims, it is fast in commemoration of (I kid you not) the liberation of the Israelites from Egypt.
I would, observe, however, that in some places, Latin Christians engage in self-mutilation in imitation of Christ's sufferings, so this particular Shi'ite oddity might not be so foreign as it seems at first.
You'd better get used to it. Someday the same may happen in your neighborhood. Don't forget, our Constitution says that even violent idiots have the freedom of expression. Have a happy Ashura y'all.

My mistake for including it with the rest. But I'm fairly sure it was worded differently before.
What are they doing in Dearborn for this high holiday?
I`m wondering though which story is right now...Is the mortar attack the right story or is this blood from the self whipping? If it is the self whipping, it does seem like a lot of blood just from that, and if it is the mortar attack, why is there this pool of blood and no damage to the surrounding area?
