Giuliani Is Sounding More Like a Candidate
New York Times ^ | 1/28/07 | RICHARD PÉREZ-PEÑA

Posted on 01/28/2007 10:18:35 AM PST by Blackirish

MANCHESTER, N. H., Jan. 27 — Rudolph W. Giuliani sounded nearer than ever to being a presidential candidate on Saturday, repeatedly talking about the prospect of running, and inviting voters to judge him by his record as mayor of New York City.

Richard Miniter has many more sources and time to investigate such information. I would think he ought to be taken far more seriesly than some anonymous caller making a claim.

Deroy Murdock wrote a recent article which said, to make a pro-life case for Rudy, that abortions in NYC during Rudy's tenure as mayor dropped 15 percent.

Sounds impressive.

Until you spend ten minutes doing a Google search to find out that abortions nationwide during the same time period dropped 29 percent. During pro-choice Bill Clinton's tenure.

Maybe a few social conservatives have written Rudy a check. That really means nothing without perspective. And we've already seen one mainstream allegedly conservative journalist attempt to bullsh** us.

Most winners, of either party, rely heavily on independents and swing voters.

He's going well out of his way to appeal to liberals. And, well out of his way away from Conservatives (of which I am one).

Forget this queer.

I think ALL the candidates have realized that the game of "pretending to be reluctant" is dead.

the NYT is pushing rudy because the NYT is heavily staffed by homosexuals or pro-homosexuals and Rudy Guiliani (and John McCain) both essentially support homsoexual marriage.

Rudy does the Kerryesque civil union BS.

McCain outright supports homosexual marriage per the Vanity Fair article.

We are essentially in the presidential election.

LOL!

That's about as pretty as his candidacy gets.

Turning the '08 general election into a second Democrat primary is not a winning strategy.

I agree. It's incumbent upon the Republican Party to offer a viable candidate.

Rudy is not it.

He's a serial cheater. That doesn't strike me as honest.

I guess you are right when you put it that way, but compared to the complete flip flopper, atleast we know where he stands.

Correct, he didn't offer a number, but it must be a fairly significant number, or why report it? If it's a few, as in 10, who cares. If it's many hundreds, or more, that would be news.

Coming from your perspective, I understand your skepticism.

I know, I just got out of a heated one with someone else on another board and took it out on him/her.

Link for the Bloomberg story
More on Bloomberg's extortion of gun dealers

nopardons I apologize. You got caught in the crossfire. I didn't mean to come at you like that. Forgive me I was wrong, not about Giuliani or Bloomberg, just my attitude. Sometimes I can be such an ass.

Longtermmemmory, your long term memory is shorter than you think. The Times was one of Rudy's severest critics and will be happy to publish any article that places him in the worst possible light from the liberal point of view.

Thanks for the links.

After reading them, it looks to me like 15 out of 45 stores, either out of sheer ignorance, or willful misconduct, sold guns during a "straw purchase". Either way, it's against the law and the shops can be in for all kinds of unpleasantness

I was at a local gun shop about a month ago buying shotgun shells for sporting clays. They had large posters mounted behind the counter concerning "Straw Purchases" and all the questions the merchant needs to ask the buyer when the buyer is filling out the appropriate documents.

It was obvious this particular shop took firearms sales very seriously and taking all possible precautions to stop the "Straw Purchase". Obviously, not all shops are as vigilant...esp. that pawn shop down in Georgia.

N.Y. is asking for proper training for the salesmen at the stores in question. Plus, they settled for a fine of a few thousand dollars. Sounds like they got off easy.

After your magnificent mia culpa, I hope this anseer doen't raise your blood pressure too much :-{>

It's not just the behavior of the stores. The fact is that Bloomberg authorized his operatives to attempt illegal straw purchases without coordinating with state law enforcement or the ATF. If you or I tried doing this we'd find our butts in jail.

Wouldn't bother me if he doesn't answer at all. I just had to clear the air.

The primary season is the time for debate ( not that THAT has actually been taking place here, very much ); NOT the general election. Then we must all hang together, or get a damned Dem as president....to paraphrase a very well known early American political speech. :-)

Thanks....and no, I'm not so "bad" at all; actually. :-)

I'd never thought I'd see the day when cutting taxes and reducing government would be considered socialist.

Freedom is about authority. Freedom is about the willingness of every single human being to cede to lawful authority a great deal of discretion about what you do.

Unless your guns have the serial numbers rubbed off, were used in commission of a criminal act, or are unlicensed, even if you had them in N.Y.C., he wouldn't have been interested in taking them away from you; EV.

You agree with gun licensing?!?!?
