I just wanted to let anyone who reads this know that:
NYT Bureau Chief John Burns, who has seen more of Iraq than any other reporter, and is described by Ed Koch as, The most respected war correspondent in Iraq ........................ who seems to discuss the war in Iraq nightly on New York City television stations. You cant mistake him. While the U.S. soldiers he regularly describes have G.I. haircuts, his hair has the look of an unshorn Merino sheep.
Anyhow, and I didnt see it (apparently the video is available) but Mr. Burns was on The Charlie Rose Show on Wednesday night for an hour. He was said to have given much hope to the plans of G.W. Bush and the war effort of our military.
Mr. Burns spoke of the need to hang in there, and went into great detail about how Iraqis really feel about life now and life back under Saddam.
He spoke of the frozen world of Saddam Hussein where no accomplishment, nothing was possible. He also mentioned he had met one man who had 126 members of his family killed by Saddam. He also mentioned that, of course, many Iraqis are discouraged by the bombings and death, but that when you really sit down with them, they know our being there in necessary and helpful.
Nevertheless, earlier tonight I was listening to a talk show host with the last name Doyle, and he was speaking of this interview of Burns on the Rose Show. He was amazed that this Bureau Chief from the NYTimes, who had seen more of Iraq than ANY OTHER REPORTER would say the POSITIVE things that he did.
To anyone who cares about the Iraq situation, you should see the interview from The Charlie Rose Show. (Video - John Burns of The New York Times on the hope that Iraq could turn around - Charlie Rose via Yahoo)

Wonder if the Rats are real happy about going to War at this moment in time, using these idiotic resolutions? The President is going ahead no matter what, and he and the troops under Patraeus, just might pull it off. Meanwhile any Republican that sides with them has got a real problem. Bet by Sunday, the song will be sung with different words. Nancy will be all over the Sunday shows, maybe in a flack jacket, saying that she wants to give the troops, NOT BUSH, more time. We`ll know if the RATS are going to back off if most of these Sunday free commercials for the DNC discuss how Bush is against old people.
Hope this is right for once.

One thing that sets John F. Burns apart from other reporters in Iraq was his courage in reporting about the brutality of Saddam's regime while Saddam was in power.
Here was a good example: How Many People Has Hussein Killed? - January 26, 2003

A fine writer too .......
"In the unlit blackness of an October night, it took a flashlight to pick them out: rust-colored butchers' hooks, 20 or more, each four or five feet long, aligned in rows along the ceiling of a large hangar-like building. In the grimmest fortress in Iraq's gulag, on the desert floor 20 miles west of Baghdad, this appeared to be the grimmest corner of all, the place of mass hangings that have been a documented part of life under Saddam Hussein."
"At one end of the building at Abu Ghraib prison, a whipping wind gusted through open doors. At the far end, the flashlight picked out a windowed space that appeared to function as a control room. Baggy trousers of the kind worn by many Iraqi men were scattered at the edges of the concrete floor. Some were soiled, as if worn in the last, humiliating moments of a condemned man's life."

Nah, maybe the supporters of the non-binding resolution (lawyer talk for gutless, and this time it won`t work)will listen to Hillorat who LOVES our troops. She only despises the uniforms.

I remember seeing him on CNN International when I was in Denmark. He was used quite extensively in interviews on CNN International shortly before and after Saddam had been executed.
