AMERICAN presidential contender Barack Obama has dismissed an allegation by a conservative website that he was educated at a radical Islamic primary school in Indonesia.
The contention that Senator Obama was educated at a radical Muslim school surfaced on Insight magazine's website, the day after he announced his 2008 presidential race.
Conservative internet blogs and the Fox News Channel picked up the story and spread the charges just as his candidacy was getting off the ground.
The Democrat candidate, a member of the United Church of Christ, today called the reports "scurrilous".
"I think they recognise that the notion that me going to school in Indonesia for two years at a public school there at the age of 7 and 8 is probably not going to be endangering in some way the people of America," the senator said on NBC television's Today show.
Associated Press today reported that SDN Menteng 1 school, located in Jakarta, was a public and secular institution open to students of all faiths since before Senator Obama attended in the late 1960s.
Senator Obama moved to Indonsia at age six, attending schools in the country until age 10, when he returned to Hawaii to live with his maternal grandparents.
The school's vice principal Akmad Solichin told AP that Insight's allegations were "completely baseless", while a spokesman for Indonesia's Ministry of Religious Affairs said claims that Senator Obama studied at an Islamic school were groundless.
"SDN Menteng 1 is a public primary school that is open to people of all faiths," said the spokesman.
"Moreover, he (Obama) studied earlier at Fransiskus Assisi, which is clearly a Catholic school."

I thought Hillary started all this?
She did, but facts don't matter to the Lying Leftist Drive By Media.
Soon? I think we have arrived.
However, thanks to the miracles of Cable TV and DVR you don't have to actually watch all this damnfoolishness.
A very Clintonian "non-denial denial". He is learning at the master's knee. ;)
Election advertising delights the senses, like a fine root canal.
The United Church of Christ. Well, that says a lot.
That's what I thought. Thanks.

"I'm no danger, says Obama"
Oh, then it's OK. I was worried there for a minute or so.
I'm sure he wouldn't lie. Muslims never lie. Do they?
I'm here everyday just lurking. This election and the Dems took alot out of me. I'm just reading FR, not watching the news and hoping this is all a bad nightmare, but it's not. sigh
Barack Hussein Obama was registered under the name "Barry Soetoro"
School documents listed Barry Soetoro as an Indonesian citizen born in Honolulu, Hawaii on 4 August 1961. Barry's religion was listed as Islam.
School documents further record Barry's father as "L Soetoro Ma" who worked as an official of the Director General's office in the TNI
Barry was previously quite religious in Islam. His birth father, Barack Hussein Obama was a Muslim economist from Kenya.

The full article even adds a quote from Howard Wolfson, Hillary's chief press aide, explaining how she and Obama are both victims in this -- victims of the right wing media.
