RALEIGH, N.C. — Former Duke lacrosse rape prosecutor Mike Nifong has been slapped with additional ethics charges by the state bar association, which has accused him of withholding DNA evidence and making misleading statements to the court.

The new charges by the North Carolina State Bar against Durham County District Attorney Mike Nifong were announced Wednesday and could lead to his removal from the state bar, according to a copy of the updated complaint. Nifong last year indicted three men from the Duke lacrosse team on charges that they raped a stripper at an off-campus party in March of 2006.

"For 'tis the sport to have the enginer / Hoist with his owne petar" -- Shakespeare, Hamlet III iv.

"Hoist" was in Shakespeare's time the past participles of a verb "to hoise", which meant what "to hoist" does now: to lift. A petard (see under "peter out" for the etymology) was an explosive charge detonated by a slowly burning fuse. If the petard went off prematurely, then the sapper (military engineer; Shakespeare's "enginer") who planted it would be hurled into the air by the explosion. (Compare "up" in "to blow up".) A modern rendition might be: "It's fun to see the engineer blown up with his own bomb."

I understand the original complaint against him ran over 17 pages, which for a complaint registered against a DA is unheard of.

Nifong will be toast after the hearings.

"Nifong will be toast after the hearings."

Not really, the left (unlike the right) has no shame about rewarding guys like Nifong for their effort.

If they yank his license to practice law I don't think he can even practice as a DA. Correct me if I'm wrong on that?

Sure but he'll get a cumfy offer from some civil rights outfit or PBS. I doubt he'll end up on skid row. Heck they might even make him a congress-critter.

Well, for now I'll settle for pulling his license and booting him from office. I think that will cause him to lose any retirement benefit he would have received after a few (3?) more years.

Ah, but will he have his pension locked in by then? That's what this is all about.

The Duke Lacrosse investigation has appeared to be such a terrible case of misjustice, it's about time Nifong is held accountable for his misdeeds.

If I were the defendant, I would sue him for malicious prosecution, defamation of character, etc. (whatever would stick) to make sure he pays cash for his abusive prosecution.

You may be correct, IIRC N.C. governor easly (demonrat) is under indictment from the Feds for raiding the pension fund of state workers.

Disbarred?

The CROOK should be thrown in Jail.

Along with Ronnie Earle down in Texas, and Fitz in DC.

Absolutely disgusting... the whole lot of 'em.
