The Pentagon has the Defense Intelligence Agency.

The Pentagon has all sorts of plans. That's their job. You can't make up a plan lickety split right at the time a crisis arises. It doesn't mean that they're going to put every plan into action.

This guy must know that. I guess he's another one of those disgruntled former employees with an agenda.

"We're not talking about just surgical strikes against an array of targets inside Iran. We're talking about clearing a path to the targets" by taking out much of the Iranian Air Force, Kilo submarines, anti-ship missiles that could target commerce or U.S. warships in the Gulf, and maybe even Iran's ballistic missile capability, White said.

Let's hope so...

Hmmmm. Sounds like a professionally planted story to me. If I wanted Dinner Jacket and the Ayatollahs to soil their pantaloons, I would leak a story like this to Al Reuters.

For an entire year, the Persians have been cocky, insisting that the Americans would do nothing. When stories like this start leaking into the press, I suspect that the Persian General Staff, the Admiralty, and the headquarters staff of the Revolutionary Guards sit up and take notice.

They have been extremely voluble about what they are going to do the Jews and to us. This is one of many articles that is going to come out saying, in so many words, that all of what they have been doing for the past ten years was a huge waste of time. All the demos, all the noise, all the parades. It was all Ass Clown Time. They were just too caught up in their own bullsh*t to figure it out.

If they're smart, which I'm not sure they are, they'll stop enrichment, and get to the table with Condi as fast as possible. However, stupid is as stupid does. There is still time for diplomacy.

Be Seeing You,

Chris

Indeed - let's hope we've learned. If we invade, we have to take out 80-90% of their military capability in a few days - I would think we can do that without nukes and without significant damage to their civilian population.

Destablize the Middle East? Since when have they ever been stable?

Exactly BB. Disgruntled as are all Demoncrats who hate
Bush more than they care for this country.

The state dept. like the U.N., has become a bureaucracy
of status quo.

Probably only one in 10,000 contingency plans are ever
implemented, but CNN and their ilk won't report that....JJ61

This is all a mute point. Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid have already said they aren't going to give Bush permission to invade Iran. /s

"You're talking about a war against Iran" that likely would destabilize the Middle East for years...

Like making a mess out of a mess.

We've got 'em surrounded. It looks like a good plan.

Unfortunately, the Democrats are determined to surrender our strategic positions.

This report is garbage, just what you would expect from Rooters. U.S. intel services engage in war planning exercises against virtually every country and collection of countries that one can imagine.

For the most part, they are strictly exercises, endless "what if's."

This report means as much as "what if you had a broken shoe lace?"

I agree....looks like a planted story from the way it reads.
Make them tense and they could make mistakes.

By the time the attack comes they will be mentally exhausted.
There will be no negotiated settlement... lol....if they signed
anything....it wouldn't be worth the paper.

The US never laid a glove on Iran back in 1979. Even after all the
aggravation they caused us. They have always felt that there is
an invisible protection over them from God because they never
took a hit from the US. They feel invisible. Carter never made them
pay any kind of price. There was no response. This is what has
made Iran so bold.

Hit them hard and there will be little response. They will be in
shock paralysis. What can they do? Escalate with a real nuclear power?

Iran has no ally. China needs Saudi Oil. Lots of it for their new SPR.
Russia just wants to make some sales.....they don't need oil and
could use a price bump. The Sunni would be happy. Iran has no ally.

a former U.S. intelligence analyst said on Friday...

*******

How long after one leaves government service does a Secret or Top Secret clearance keep one from speaking about what they saw?

If he was truly a Top Intelligence Officer, then he probably saw some pretty quiet intelligence gathering.

Aren't even the daily intelligence reports that the President and most Top Gov'ment officials get labeled above Top Secret?

He hasn't even been gone two years.

Big deal. They've probably got "contingency plans" to invade Canada. They've got plans for any possible scenario that could ever occur, no matter how unlikely.

Wayne is a "adjunct scholar" of the "think tank" where he delivered this message and it appears that he is a staunch ex State Dept. jellyfish(somewhat in the mode of a Colin Powell). He was also an adviser to the Iraq Study Group and I found one comment from him where he lashed out at the ISG because they issued their final recommendations without checking with him first. He was, of course, very diplomatic.

Along those same lines consider, if you are going to send valuable personnel and equipment into harm's way, we should take every precaution to insure that they can successfully complete the mission and return safely. To do this will require the interdiction of Iran's capabilities.
Strike their interior lines of communication. Gain control of the air and the sea. Let them see what happens when they rouse a world power.

More power to them.

"How long after one leaves government service does a Secret or Top Secret clearance keep one from speaking about what they saw?"

Forever. All TS//// can only be declassified to Confidential.

That means it remains Classified. Only proper Authorization can make it public, Usually a Presidential approval.
