Attorney Mark E. Goidell once represented rapper Sean Combs, known at the time as "Puffy." He defended a New York man convicted of double murder. He defended a woman who falsely accused a co-worker of sexually abusing mentally disabled patients. But he has decided to no longer represent former Rep. Gary Condit of Ceres. Goidell wants a federal judge to let him out of a defamation case he brought on Condit's behalf. Facing potential sanctions for filing an allegedly frivolous lawsuit against author Dominick Dunne, Goidell this week said the case never should have been brought. "The defamation claim in this action is not warranted by existing law, or by a nonfrivolous argument for new law," Goidell said in an affidavit Monday. But while Goidell pushes the eject button, Condit is vowing to fight on. The former House member brought his second federal lawsuit against Dunne in November. Condit claimed the author and TV raconteur falsely linked him to the 2001 disappearance of intern Chandra Levy. Raised in Modesto, Levy was last seen alive April 30, 2001. Her skeletal remains were found a year later in Washington's Rock Creek Park. Her murder is unsolved, and police have never identified a suspect. Three decades her senior, Condit eventually acknowledged to investigators that he had had a sexual relationship with Levy, according to undisputed published accounts. Police never called him a suspect in her disappearance and death. He was voted out of office in 2002. "I think he knows more about what did happen than he has ever said," Dunne said in a Nov. 16, 2005, appearance on CNN's "Larry King Live." Dunne declined to elaborate, noting that he and Condit had settled an earlier lawsuit.

Goidelle needs to face further sanctions and not be let off the hook. He should have looked BEFORE he leaped.
I'm still waiting for Unsolved Mysteries to do this story.
Or Mark Fuhrman :)

"Gary Condit is a dirtbag!"
I forgot entirely about him. How's golfing with OJ going?
MSM article on a scandal + no party affiliation stated = (D)
A handy rule I learned on Freerepublic. It always seems to work.
I'm sure he looked carefully. He looked for a quick settlement and some easy money. In anywhere but a courtroom this would be called extortion. When the victim decided to fight back he changed his mind.
And so's his lawyer, apparently.
If not for 9/11 Gretta would still be doing shows on this one.
That's quite a piece of backstabbing by his own lawyer.
"If somebody HAS to go to jail, make sure it's your client!"
>>If not for 9/11 Gretta would still be doing shows on this one.<<
That's right. This story was topping the charts, until the planes hit.
Now Condit is a distant memory.
9/11???? You mean that Aruba chick, don't you? Natalie something or other? I don't rightly recall, I go quickly past Gretta.
I'm surprised that the lawyer's affidavit was not filed under seal.
Oh well. Gary "Probably Guilty, If Not In Quite The Way Dunne Described It" Condit soldiers on.
Furthermore, when they call him "Rep. Gary Condit," some people might think that "Rep." means Republican.

Condit should hire Mike Nifong-I'm pretty sure he's going to be looking for a job soon.
