With a few dissents, Sen. Mel Martinez (R-FL) was elected general chair of the Republican Nat'l Cmte this afternoon. RNC general counsel Mike Duncan was elected chair.

I have never donated to the RNC as I have NEVER believed the RNC could be trusted with my money. When I have donated, it has always been directly to the campaigns of candidates I support. I would strongly urge other to do likewise.

Schundler lost after the statewide GOP (who are all onyx's brand of RINO) would not outwardly support him. The party was split between "moderate" Bob Franks' supporters and Schundler's supporters. I'm pretty sure those lousy RINOs wouldn't endorse him even after he won the primary. See what happens when RINOs gain control of your party?

Worse, some of those same RINOs actively and publicly supported Schundler's opponent..... Jim McSleazey!

You guys in New Jersey are going to have to work out some sort of compromise between the two wings, or you will continue to lose elections.

Shundler won the primary fair and square. It was the RINOs who failed to endorse him over McSleezy and they are the reason for the disarray in the Jersey GOP. NJ will prove to be a microcosm of the US if we continue to back these RINOs, like individuals on this thread like to push. And honestly, I really think that is what they want.

For him to run against Hillary and having won, WHICH HE WOULD HAVE DONE and then, turn right around and said that he was running for president, would not only have looked TERRIBLE, but unethical and stupid!

Oh really? That's what Obama is doing having been elected the first time in '04. And he's very much in the mix for the Dems at the moment. It doesn't seem like his one, partial term is really an issue, does it? And it was very, very obvious that Obama had high aspirations even in '04.

Obama's keynote address took place BEFORE his election to the senate, and as the article indicates, speculation about his presidential candidacy arose PRIOR to his election to the senate. And he even stated that he would NOT run for national office in four years, which was an all out lie on his part. Now, is this effecting his presidential bid now? Of course not.

same here buddy. I registered for the Republican party when I was 18 years old and I credit Ronald Reagan for that. That was many years ago and I have always called myself a Republican until about last December.
I was home at a Christmas party and one of my in-laws mentioned I was a Republican to another one of these so called relatives.
I corrected her by saying " Republican....no, I'm a Conservative. " It was the first time I had called myself such rather than declaring my party registration. There was a time when simply saying you were a Republican meant you were a Conservative but those days are now well over.

The previous party chairman managed the successful re-election campaign of Bush/Cheney against really tough odds and saved Bush from the fate his father. What "leadership" has Amnesty Mel shown in the Senate, or even in the cabinet? This loser is so incompentant, he HANDED Tom Harkin the Terry Schivo "talking points" memo the GOP wrote up. If it was any other first term Senator choosen for RNC chair with that kind of record, the nomination would be laughed out the door.

So now the official position of the Republican Party is "affirmation action is bad, except when we pick our officials". Do as I say, not as I do.

Michael Steele had enormous accomplishments in Maryland, and was the best choice for Party Chairman, his record stood on its own whether he had been black, white, hispanic, asian, or from Mars. He had already served as state party chair, he was elected the first Republican Lt. Governor of an ultra Dem state in about 40 years, and he came THISCLOSE to winning a Senate seat, running in the bluest of the blue states, in a huge year for the Dems. Normally, a Republican in Maryland is lucky to poll 35%

Any "conservative" who would support a mediocre yes-man like Martinez over the saavy Michael Steele is practing affirmative action.
