LOL...just now saw your ping to this thread.
What can we say??
This is ridiculous...and have you seen Martinez stand up on the Senate floor and give a speech this session??
NOOOOOOO..I haven't either...I wonder why??
Don't you think that one of the ONLY good reasons for having a sitting Senator as your RNC Chairman...might be, because he would have access to a TV CAMERA!!!
We are so screwed.

Rick Sanatorium or Allen George fit better in that position.

If you love liberalism, then you loved Gillespie and Mehlman as RNC chairmen. Despite your alleged expertise on the inner workings of the RNC, it was Mehlman who supported the most conservative candidate in the Michigan Senatorial primary. But others, supposedly including Dole, wanted a more mainstream candidate. Their choice won and never even managed to mount a serious campaign against Stabenow, running out of money weeks before the election.

You realize he does not set policy? I'm guessing you don't. He can have a lot of input into party rulemaking which can ultimately influence policy by favoring one candidate over another. But I don't believe Martinez will abuse his position with blatant favoritism, at least until one candidate acquires a lock on the nomination.
It's apparent that a lot of folks don't really understand the inner workings of how a national political party operates. The real power centers are in obscure places like the Executive Committee of the party's national committee, and the Platform Committee at the convention, which is mostly controlled by the presidential nominee.

I wholeheartedly agree with you, Hal! My objection or concern is limited to the fact that he's a sitting senator. I would have much preferred a full time RNC Chair.

This is ridiculous...and have you seen Martinez stand up on the Senate floor and give a speech this session?? I would hope that he would look for a wider audience than the Senate and C-Span.

That is a valid concern. In my opinion, the most important job for the chairman is to unite the party after the nominee is determined, and that can be a full-time job.

OK, this bites big time. Besides the fact that his record isn't stellar, he's not good in front of a camera and he's going to be far too busy with the Senate to be a real, full-time chairman. Ugh.

I remember that Schundler was stood up by a buunch of RINO's when he ran. I ALSO remember that the prior candidate was a RINO and the conservatives refused to support HIM.
You guys in New Jersey are going to have to work out some sort of compromise between the two wings, or you will continue to lose elections. Sorry, but the Rats have a chokehold on your state and neither wing of the Republicans can win this by themselves.
I hate it for your state, but that's the situation.

Hear, hear. I felt the exact same way after I met him.
I just have little faith that the GOP can reform itself, and everyone talking about "single issue voters," blah, blah, blah, irritate me to no end.
Life is made up of an unending string of such single issues, and like raindrops, they add up.
In this case, to the last move. - Checkmate.
