SPILL-ARY: Sen. Hillary Clinton looks frustrated yesterday amid bad news in the Democratic race.
WASHINGTON - Rising Democratic star Barack Obama has climbed into a statistical tie with Hillary Rodham Clinton in the 2008 race for the White House, according to a poll released yesterday. The Rasmussen Reports national poll shows the front-running Clinton's once-huge lead has evaporated, as 22 percent of likely Democratic primary voters favor the former first lady, compared to 21 percent who back Obama. The survey found older Democrats stick with the name they know, Clinton, while Democrats under 50 flock to the fresh-faced Obama, a 45-year-old first-term senator from Illinois.
John Edwards, the Democrats' 2004 vice-presidential candidate, checked in at third, with 15 percent, while 2000 presidential candidate Al Gore pulled in 7 percent to place fourth. Meanwhile, a new Zogby poll spelled more bad news for Clinton, showing her tied for third with former Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack - at 16 percent - in a survey of likely Iowa Caucus goers. Edwards (27 percent) was first, and Obama (17 percent) was second.
