Obama has been groomed as the '08 presidential candidate since his "We are all Americans" speech at the '04 DNC. Hillary likely did not oppose this.
Perhaps Bammy's ONLY function in the '08 election cycle is to make HILLARY appear to be a moderate in truth...at least in comparison to him. Then this would make a bit more sense.

By next year, we'll be hearing that Obama is in fact a religious conservative. In the Chicago airwaves, I keep hearing how Obama is Mr Clean on political ethics and how he is active in his church. The Purpose Driven Pastor, Rick Warren, praised Obama's character on CNN.
