Fantastic. I've been pointing out the disaster that TennCare is for a while now. I'm glad to see someone finally give it some ink.

This is an excellent post. Really details the TennCare disaster.

Yes, I remember those times. (And it wasn't just one year, either. In fact, it seemed like the state income tax was never going to go away until it was finally enacted, over the objections of most Tennesseans.)
How ironic it is that a Republican governor (Sundquist), who campaigned on a pledge never to consider an income tax, spent much of his second term doing just that; whereas his successor, a Democrat (Bredesen) has drastically cut TennCare, in line with his campaign promises.
I do not find it easy to praise a Democrat while condemning his Republican successor; but in this case, both reactions are well deserved.

From the article:
At 7:30am, at the instigation of the talk radio hosts, cars, trucks, and virtually every other type of motor vehicle you could imagine began circling the state capitol blaring their horns. Thousands of angry citizens swarmed into downtown Nashville and traffic all around town came to a virtual standstill... By late afternoon, the legislature had abandoned the income tax proposal entirely, closed the state budget gaps with temporary measures, and ended the legislative session for the year while they could still get out of town with their lives. Car horns continued to blare well into the night. The Nashville radio stations were indeed instrumental in rallying patriots to protest in the capital.
To bad Dennis and the Donks want to shut them down.

Trust me, I'm not trying to defend this kind of program at all. I'm just curious. Did the TennCare program require employers to cover their employees? According to this article, employers dropped at-risk workers. Under Rendell's plan, the employer (those w/ more than 50 employees) would be required to cover their workers - under 50, you can get help from this program. So, short of laying off the employee, is there a way the employer can legally drop an at-risk worker and still keep him on?
I'm just trying to figure out what the libs are going to say when someone poses the TennCare example to them.

TennCare was a boondoggle. It cured Tennesseans of any illusion government-run health care would provide universal insurance and save the taxpayers money. Perhaps California needs to go down the same path to disspell the illusion universal health care is truly affordable as well as cost-conscious.
