U.S. Rep. Duncan Hunter will go south to formally launch his bid for the 2008 Republican presidential nomination.
Roy Tyler, the El Cajon Republican's communications director for the effort, said Tuesday that the announcement will take place Jan. 25 at a $250-a-plate breakfast at a Marriott hotel in Spartanburg, S.C.
"Congressman Hunter will speak about a new American sunrise of opportunity, faith and freedom," according to an invitation for the event.
Hunter, 58, announced in San Diego in early November that he was considering a run for the 2008 Republican presidential nomination, keying on national security, immigration and border security issues.
Last week, Hunter filed his formal paperwork with the Federal Election Commission, establishing the Hunter for President Exploratory Committee and naming longtime supporter Bruce Young of San Diego as his treasurer.

funny that SC's native son went to NOLA to announce and a Californian is going to SC. Where will Rudy announce .. Kansas ?
I am just kidding folks until we decided if you want to go ahead with this? (see the table)
I'm not too sure that all freepers are freepers. If you were a member of the organized far-left (and believe me, the left is organized) would you leave a conservative web-site the size and notariety of FR without a few moles (actually worms would be a better term)?
This is not to say that there cannot be widely divergent views among conservatives. Still, to be conservative entails holding to a few values that cannot be compromised, as some "freepers" would suggest we do.
my vote also
Thanks for your graph. Excellent. I am solid in Duncan Hunter's camp. If I lived in South Carolina, I'd be there to cheer him on in his entrance into the fray.
Check out Duncan Hunter.
South Carolina Ping
Add me to the list. / Remove me from the list.
i heard him speak in Columbia & he is A-OK with me too.
NOW we also need to get RAVENEL to "unseat" "light in his loafers lindsey" in the GOP primary!!!!

for now at least TT is "MY guy in the race". (fyi, i MUST support the nominee of the GOP in NOV 08, as i'm a GOP party official & a state election official of the GOP.)
i'll support most anyone who is NOT a DAMNyankee, who is PRO-life, PRO-2d amendment and/or is NOT mccain/gulianni/romney/LIBERAL.

Read Dick Morris and his latest article, also go to Zogby.com.
This is what is going on in the REAL world of politics.
Major league players are the issue, not nobody congresscritters from state offices, no how.
If he was serious about running for President he should have certainly ran in 2000 or ran for CA Governor in 1998. I don't understand why he's running now.
The question is how do people successfully prevent conservative voters from splitting the vote among all of the candidates for Republican President and then fully support Duncan Hunter instead during the primary season? This is the present challenge right now, and all of the candidates are presently doing the same things at the same time with trying to court the majority of conservative voters.
He definitely has Gravitas!!!
Were I a drug-user I'd query you about the particular combination of illicit substances you're using so I could duplicate the psychedelic effects.
You're right Dog Gone. The more true consevatives we have in the race the better. Hunter isn't my first choice right now either, but I'm just learning about him and I like what I see so far. To date, there haven't been too many who are considering running that I feel comfortable with.
You're better off boiling it down to one guy ASAP - of course that depends on what one's definition of "true conservative" is.
With luck, you can get Hunter POSSIBLY as the VP candidate. He's infinitely better than, say, Gingrich, in that you're far better off running someone unknown than someone that most of the population either loathes or considers a has-been joke.....
Or, of course, Tancredo, who, no matter what he says or does, will always be "That guy who hates immigrants" to much of the population. And, of course, a guy whose ONLY chance of winning requires Al Queda to bring a nuke over the Mexican border and set it off in an American city within the next two years isn't much of a candidate.
My .02 which will of course always be wildly unpopular.
Your .02 always welcome Strategerist. :-) My mind is not made up yet.
While I like your chart, I was thinking of a more neutral type of chart. Let me set up a couple as a straw man.
Category - WOT
Hunter - supports the war effort
McCain - supports the war effort
Immigration
Hunter - supports legal immigration in accordance with existing law. Opposes illegal immigration, supports improving border controls.
etc.
It would be nice to have our own thread, not sure how this can be accomplished?
