"How much longer? I hear someone," says the nervous terrorist with a heavy Middle Eastern accent, just before U.S. agents storm a warehouse where a nuclear device is being assembled. Confusion reigns, drama builds, the device is detonated and a mushroom cloud looms over Los Angeles. Such is primetime television in the age of terrorism, or as some critics charge, has "24" gone too far?
"It's the closest television comes to roller coasters," said David Bianculli, television critic for the New York Daily News. "It works well dramatically, and as far as feeding fears, that's what '24' is all about."
Sut Jhally, co-producer and co-director of the film "Hijacking Catastrophe," says the dramatic action in the show creates a dangerous climate in which the public loses some of its perspective on what's real and what's not. Of course that may be a minority opinion given the show's enormous popularity.

Ah hell, he can shake that off. Jack died in one of the episodes in season 2. Tony got the better part of a car bomb and lived.
Dear Vaquero,
"I will have to re-watch the end that I Tivo'd last nite...I guess I was tired...."
I'm not sure you'll think it wasn't the shoulder after you re-watch it. I kinda thought it was more the shoulder than the neck, myself.
But the "official" reading is that he got shot in the neck and died.

I saw him on Charlie Rose the other night. He said he has socialist leanings. He wants health care for all. I definitely heard him use the word 'socialist' in relation to himself two or three times. Most people in that type of family usually do continue the legacy. Imagine how inconceivable it would be to have a Kennedy who didn't follow the family party-line. (If there is such a Kennedy, I haven't heard of him/her.)
Non-showering shouldn't be an issue as it all happens on ONE day. Each season starts at 6:00 AM ("The following takes place between 6:00AM and 7:00AM"...) and ends at 6:00AM the next day.
PMJI, do you have any information on whether there will be a DVD release of the "Amerika" miniseries? Curious how it has never been re-aired, isn't it?
The first 3 minutes of 24 last Sunday were enough for me. Too much PC. I turned it off.
That is exactly how I feel and Drudge is one of them. I was listening to Drudge Sunday night because my electricity went out (ice storm) waiting for local news and Drudge was making fun of 24 while going on and on about the golden globs.
Let's see:
Muslim terrorists that detonate a nuke
Liberal who helps the terrorists get the trigger
Weak assed President who is a democrat who is willing to sell out Bauer, cut deals with terrorists and take no relatiatory measures
Liberal ACLU Lawyers talking about civil liberties when citizens are being killed
Terrorists who pretend they are innocent
yeah, that was all really PC
Just think, if Jack hadn't been crying against that tree he could have astral travelled over there and stopped that thing! Superman got too near the kryptonite.
I never listen to him. I will check the site once in awhile. I haven't watched one of those goofy award shows since I was kid. They are so boring and I get tired of hearing "and I want to thank"... blah blah...who cares. I guess if you are one of those movie star addicted types you might like them.
This new Pres Palmer is a wimp and slow learner. Caved in twice to the terrorists demands and was burned both times. He has got to be a democrat. A real Republican would never negotiate with terrorists.
I haven't seen Jericho. What station does it air on?
...Except for one, who was spirited away as an infant, and raised by a kindly old couple on a Kansas farm. But soon, very soon, her destiny and her mission on earth will be revealed to her...
I don't know if that's true. I seem to remember some of the seasons starting either late at night or sometime in the middle of the day. I could be wrong.
"This television show is very political, and it's no accident that it's on Fox," said Jhally, who directs the Media and Education Foundation and is professor of communications at University of Massachusetts. "Given their propaganda system, it doesn't surprise me."
______
Yes, it's politcal. The President is black, his sister is the sole defender of the constitutions, civil liberties and civil rights. All of their comments on these issues are the liberal talking points against the Patriot Act. Yes, it's a politcal show. How did this "writer" not see this but only that the show creates fear of muslims, because he has an agenda.
bttt
"Ironically though, they also have some interesting contradictions to that...like the time Jack is torturing a guy and he decides the suspect has no more information because he "sees it in his eyes", then his Islamic traitor ally sticks a knife in the guy's kneecap and the guy starts spilling info. In other words, TORTURE WORKED!"
If often does...
...as it did with John McCain.
Maybe...I have only watched the last three seasons but either way the entire season (24 episodes) happens in one 24 hour period - one day...so showering shouldn't be a concern. Bathroom breaks on the other hand...LOL! I suppose when we don't see a character on-screen they may get their chance to go to the potty!
