The conservatives are the Republican Party's base. Around election time you see how many Freepers stuff envelopes, walk the precincts, etc. There are many, many more conservatives in this country than the MSM would have you believe. Think Nascar nation--the most popular sport in this country is Nascar. Now how many of those fans do you think are panting to vote for Hillary? The most popular President of modern times by many orders of magnitude was Ronald Reagan, an unabashed conservative who ran as a conservative and governed as a conservative.

If the Republicans run another Reagan, an ideological conservative, and optimist who can get that message to the people, there isn't a Democrat on earth who can stop him.

It's interesting that the Buchanan's are in the mix again. I'll have to give it to Bay in that she has a huge direct mail list in which to churn dollars with.

If Tancredo concedes early, could you see her jumping on the Hunter bandwagon? His campaign could certainly use a helping hand when it comes to raising money.

Paul is hands-down the best member of congress when it comes to domestic issues. He votes strictly based on the Constitution and is known as "Dr. No" since the great majority of his votes are against any given bill, which, in my opinion is a good thing since most of what congress passes is trash.

The problem with Paul is that his views on national defense are dopey. He is big-time against the war in Iraq. He has articulate arguments against it, but I still think that he is dead wrong.

Reagan didn't settle. He kept coming back and back 'til he got what he wanted the vast majority of the time. When Congress was being recalcitrant, he went over their heads to the people, and he never, never, never gave up the ideological ground he had won. I'm thinking of the defense buildup, Reykjavik, the "evil empire," etc. He never backed down on his beliefs.

And no, I don't automatically vote R for fear of the big, bad Democrats, especially if you can't tell the difference between them. I won't, for example, vote for McCain just to avoid Hillary. McCain's too dangerous; I don't care what party he belongs to. As for Giuliani or Romney, it would depend. So far my guy's Duncan Hunter, who's doing surprisingly well for a virtual unknown. Which should tell the RNC something, if they care to take notice.

My guess is the Buchanan's will go where the money allows them to, maybe the CP and their nominee [Keyes, Corsi, Gilchrist, Baldwin] ..... who knows at this stage.

Here's a link to the AZ straw poll from Maricopa County taken over the weekend..... Hunter won and Tancredo didn't fare well in it yet he's the one who's spent time down AZ way in defense of the fence along the border.....

The majority of Americans don't hate the Democrats because the majority of Americans aren't taking enough notice of politics to know who the Democrats are. And waaay too many Americans still get their news from the MSM.

You can't win elections only with your base, but you can't win elections without them, either. And you can't win elections if you let your opposition define you without responding. I think that's been the biggest problem of Bush 43's presidency. He won't fight back and won't use the bully pulpit. He won't articulate a consistent message for the people who don't follow politics rabidly like us. And since he allows the media and the Dems to frame the debate, he loses the debate every time.

Good question. If Paul had a hypothetical chance at the nomination, I would probably give him a pass on his war views, simply because his leadership on obeying the Constitution is exactly what this country needs desperately. In reality, he does not stand a chance though, so I'm sticking with Duncan Hunter for now.
