Tancredo will put the illegal immigration issue back on the map. And it will put him on the map. If he is good, and he'll have to be pretty daggone good, he can operate from that ground and gain the nomination.

Uh, Duncan Hunter has already made stopping illegal immigration part of his campaign. All Tancredo will do is split up the conservative vote in the GOP primaries. As a candidate, Hunter is heads and shoulders above Tancredo.

If nothing else, Tancredo will force discussion of illegal (and legal) immigration as a major issue in the primaries, and that's a good thing. I doubt I can be persuaded to support him with my vote, but I'm not upset that he's in the race.

I agree 100%. Even though I really like Paul and Tancredo, I'm sticking with Hunter as I feel he is the only conservative with a decent chance at getting the nomination.

Now that Hunter, Paul and Tancredo are in the race, can you imagine how cool the primary debates are going to be? I can't wait!

"Tancredo will get the support of the one-issue voter, the type that is overrepresented here at FR."

One issue is better than *No Issue*. IMO, In order to get people motivated, you must find the issue they are most passionate about and play on that. If illegal immigration gets voters to the polls, fine. Personally, I don't see anyone on this forum as *one Issue* voters. That is just a slam from the OBL and the Freetraders to direct attention away from one of our biggest problems.

Are the ultra conservatives the base, the base are the ones that vote for their party come what, work unpaid all hours and all weather come what.

I bet it would be very interesting to actually look at figures and statistics.

At the end of the day no particular wing is more important than any other they all need each other. One wing maybe more important in certain areas than others but at the end of the day they need each other to have balanced party and a party that has country even State wide appeal. .

"Tancredo should just run for Allard's open Senate seat."

He said he didn't want to run for U.S. senate, and wanted somebody named "McInnis" (spelling?) to run. Just passing that along.

In the long run most of them will be inconsequential and the GOP nominee will come from someone more moderate and more appealing across the spectrum of ideas...

In other words you are saying another RINO will win.

God! I pray this person is wrong.

Newt didn't "diss the base", he said that you can't win elections by simply turning out your base.

Newt didn't say one thing about adopting moderate positions to appeal to other voters. He believes that focusing on ISSUES will appeal to the other voters.

Rove didn't focus on issues, he focused on organization getting out the people who voted for us before.

That only works if you have enough people who voted for you before, and who still want to vote for you.

It does you know good if you make a dozen phone calls, and get a dozen people to show up, but 5 of them vote for your opponent.

And when independents think you are only focused on getting your own base out to vote, they tend to not be interested in that. An independent doesn't vote against the democrats, they vote for what they think is right for america.

In the absense of the republicans standing strong for conservative principles, the independent had a choice between voting against all the things the republicans had done, or voting against the democrat party.

And while I don't think they liked chosing between negatives, the democrats at least were discussing issues, not party.

If we take nothing else from this election, it has to be to bury the notion that a majority of americans hate the democrats.

NAFTA, first proposed by Ronald Reagan, has been a huge success for the USA, by any objective standard. Ross Perot was wrong. We have the lowest unemployment in decades.

A lot of the opposition to NAFTA is really "I don't want to do business with no steenkin' Mexicans."

Not all of it is, but the discussions of NAFTA here are directed at Mexico 99% of the time, and Canada rarely is mentioned.

And Canada is, by far, our biggest trading partner in the world.

Ain't that the truth. All three will speak their minds. Imagine just the big three of McCain, Giuliani and Romney. A lot of "uh...." and "well I don't know" and "I don't have an opinion" in that debate.

I could save Tancredo a lot of cash by telling him he has absolutely no shot.

I'm a conservative. If the Republicans only offer RINOs, there is no one for me to vote for. I will not vote for McCain, as he is an enemy of the Constitution and all I hold dear. If you doubt that, check the legislation with his name on it. McCain's favorite pasttime is taking freedom away from his fellow Americans. Giuliani is not a conservative. I think he would respond well to a crisis, but on most issues he is a liberal. If you look at Romney's record in Massachusetts, he is another Ford or Bush 41, both of whom were one-term Presidents for a reason.

You may like your conservative party to offer diversity, I like my conservative party to offer conservatives. Where oh, where is my Reagan?

LOLOL. It successfully raised our taxes, lowered our living standards, crashed our schools, closed our hospitals, inflated our dollar, erased our border, gave 30 million illegal aliens a voice in our government through mob action and communist lobbying groups, shut down local manufacturing while giving transnational corporations(who have NO LOYALTY" to the country where they incorporated)the largest profits in the history of the earth, and set the stage for the socialist global government that is corrupting every institution here. If you are an anti-American globalist, you can say NAFTA was a huge success.

They want to put an Arnold Schwarzensocialist type in the White House.

Ronald Reagan knew you could not have 100 per cent of what you wanted he often settled for 70 per cent.

So if you have to choose a less conservative candidate in order to win would you rather not vote for them and end up with a Democrat in the White House - forgot your conservative views then and more importantly forgot your national security.

I think he did this for the same reason as Kucinich.

It is very PROFITABLE to be a pretender candidate.

There's a new NAFTA program you might be able to tell us about.

"Globalization Adjustment Assistance"

We'd like to hear more.
