Climate change is likely involved -- but, not the "global warming" various nutters are screaming about. The more likely culprit is the "Pacific Decadal Oscillation". The PDO is a periodic climate shift (hence "oscillation") occurring over a period of a few decades (hence "decadal").

The following chart is from that site. Note the increase in temperature a few years ago -- coinciding with all the hysteria about GW. Also note where the temperatures appear to be heading.
