Several senators have voiced opposition to the idea of the United States entering Iran.
Last week, Sen. Joe Biden, D-Delaware, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, told Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice during a hearing on Iraq, "I believe the present authorization granted the president to use force in Iraq does not cover that, and he does need congressional authority to do that."
Rice did not rule out entering Iran or give a position on whether the Bush administration would need congressional approval.
Sen. Chuck Hagel, R-Nebraska, told Rice, "No one in our government can sit here today and tell Americans that we won't engage the Iranians and the Syrians cross-border." Comparisons to Vietnam war
"When our government lied to the American people and said, 'We didn't cross the border going into Cambodia,' in fact, we did," Hagel said, referring to the Vietnam war. "So, Madam Secretary, when you set in motion the kind of policy that the president is talking about here, it's very, very dangerous."
Similarly, the political left, aided by saps like Hagel, will fight desperately to protect Islamo-fascists in Iran from any consequences for their constant cross-border violations of Iraq, causing many of the casualties to both the US military and Iraqi civilians.
I'm not saying we will or should attack Iran, obviously that is a huge step, but we have to at least be willing to do so and turn the screws tight if we expect to achieve anything via the sanctified "diplomacy" that liberals are always blathering on about.
Iran needs to be taken out.
Nuke Iran!!!
We should have attacked Iran long ago with overwhelming force.
MESSAGE TO SENATOR BIDEN: We should not sit and wait to be nuked by some religious fanatic nut in Iran....Please prvide a better idea, if you have one.
The two messed-up thing here is that there's Americans out there that will support congress in trying to usurp the Prasident as commander-in-chief, completely ignorant of what the Constitution says in the matter.
The second massed-up thing is that there are Americans who still thing you win wars by being the gentleman instead of the warrior.
I would certainly support the idea of obliterating Iran's nuke, military, and "Revolutionary Guards" capabilities to the greatest extent possible, so long as we go about it the right way and accomplish what needs to be done. The only thing that makes me hesitate is that the combination of weak-kneed RINOs like Hagel plus all the charlatan Demagogues like Biden makes it nearly impossible that we will do it right. We should have the will to simply crush Iranian forces from the air in a massive assault, but I suspect anything we do will be half-assed and not get the job done right. That is the only reason I hesitate, not because it should not really be done, and done soon.
Taking out IRAN would not be any more difficult than taking on Iraq...we did not use all the resourses we could have then and we will not need NUKES Now...our conventional capability now is even more awsome now...
God bless our Troops...rain Hell on our enemies!
Iran needs to be dealt with once and for all. It's way overdue.
The European's unwillingness to deal with Hitler will pale in comparison to what is unleashed on the world because of our three decade long unwillingness to deal with Iran.
Listen to the weasels squirm. Yellow turkeys.
It's not about security...long term or short...It's all about BUSH...Case Closed.
We can take Iran and Syria at the same time. These paper tigers cannot stop the USA forces if we decide to kick their asses !!!
Well why not? Everything I've heard from Iran since 911 is: "Iran: Can't rule out attack on U.S. and Israel."
I like the way you think.
Rain Hell on our enemies. That had to be like an Ike comment or something. None the less....Your right.
We have enough smart weapons, cruise missles and the like to wreak havoc on Iran. This nation building stuff is just hog-warsh.
might be thinking of harry t."if they do not now accept our terms they can expect a rain of ruin from the air the likes never seen on this earth" part of trumans speech following the dropping of the first nukie. guess the japs didn't believe him as it took another one to make 'em say uncle.
Hagel is not a "Republican" or a patriot.
I have something for Hagel, but I like it here, so, I'll just say huck fagel.
Sorry to dampen your analysis, but it would be:
1. We already effectively controlled the one part of Iraq with difficult terrain--Iraqi Kurdistan--at the onset of Op. Iraqi Freedom, thanks to the
pro-US Kurdish autonomous region under the protection of the no-fly zone.
By contrast much more of Iran is mountainous, and we have no significant organized allies in-country.
2. Iran has a much larger population.
Invasion of Iran is a non-starter. The plan has to be to cut off their proxies in Iraq, foment unrest in Iran, and, if needed, hit them with an air campaign directed at their nuclear installations, Revolutionary Guard facilities, and regime leadership.
You said it well. It is incomprehensible to me, that while our forces were being attacked in S. Vietnam, OUR Congress forbid the assault on NVA supply lines in Cambodia and Laos. Where are THEIR apologies? Do they admit their mistakes? Why don't we ever call them on this?
