Iran's deadly subversion

http://washingtontimes.com/op-ed/20070114-101502-3675r.htm

Evidence mounts of Iran's role in financing terrorist elements in Iraq, and the Bush administration appears to have decided -- correctly, in our view -- that it's time to step up the fight against the most brazen forms of Iranian subversion in Iraqi, particularly paying for roadside bombs that kill and maim American soldiers. President Bush's warning issued to Iran and its rogue-state ally Syria in his address to the nation last week was not made in a vacuum, but in the course of a stepped up U.S. military campaign to deny Iran and its agents the ability to operate freely in Iraq.

U.S. officials say that growing numbers of U.S. troops in Baghdad and other regions of Iraq where Shi'ite militias operate are being killed by explosive devices supplied by Iran. Last month, American forces captured members of an elite unit of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard transferring explosives to Shi'ite militias. One official captured in Baghdad was the third-ranking man in the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Quds force, which carries out intelligence activities and terrorist training outside Iran. U.S. forces found what appeared to be maps of Baghdad neighborhoods from which Sunnis could be removed, as well as evidence of the force's participation in Hezbollah's war against Israel last summer.

We can take Iran and Syria at the same time.

Two birds with one stone, you mean. The bonus of taking out/changing regime in Iran is that it takes care of Syria without wasting military power - after losing Saddam they now entirely depend on Iran for their energy and commisions for sponsoring Hezbollah. I believe that's why Syria has not been touched yet, it would be unnecessary diversion from the root of the problem; waste of time, money and military and more yapping and hearings from Congress about "not talking", "diplomacy", unilateralism...

Amen.

Americans began "not" supporting the war in Iraq when the (strategery) moved into meals on wheels and beat cop.

I have the utmost respect and adoration for our troops...this is why putting them in the middle of a shootin gallery is just absurd.

Ya just can't refute the fact that we lost only a hand full of troops in both invasions of Iraq. We kicked the crap outta them. It was only when we started this democracy installation tactic that we began loosing scores.

"Bush has nothing to loss but to win!"

Bush has everything to gain as does the republican party. If you show weakness, you get weakness....you show strength, you will see the American public rally behind him.

Just not sure why they have difficulties analyzing their own trends in public opinion.

Gotta tell ya, our CMA chapter rode to Brook Army Medical Center to deliver gifts and monetary donations to the "wounded" troops.......you know, the ones no one see.

It'll break your heart. If America was to get a little focus on the wounded (which happens to be in the thousands), they would demand we stop trying to install a democracy in a country that will NEVER realize true peace.

These people know nothing about democracy. Woopie, they cast a vote and painted their fingers purple.

You can't change thousands of years of culture in a few years. Look at'em, they can't even stop killin each other!

Iran has always been the end game in this war. Iraq has for the most part, simply been a staging area.

You're so right, but 6&9 of Aug, 1945 was definitely the last time we showed any toughness against an enemy. McArthur wanted to do the same thing in N.Korea but it cost him his job. Now look at the mess in that country.

#1 you have dampened me not...the terrain favors the USA...we can fly and deliver death or relief anywhere in Iran...our air superiority will not allow the Mulots to control their country...the pro USA groups are being supplied and trained now! we only need the correct timing to kick the Mulots to the wayside...
The sooner the better...diplomacy with this radical group will never work, only the Iron Boot will prevail.

I agree with most of your analysis, just that in my opinion we are much stronger than the MSM and Pundits think to be true...we just need to take the PC crap out of the War on Terror Matrix!!!

Yup. I'm still waiting for the modern parallel to that Admiral who declared, upon entering the harbor that "This will be over when the japanese language is spoken only in hell".

Iran needs to be dealt with once and for all. It's way overdue

I agree, and also felt that way about Iraq ever since the first Gulf war. The question is how to do that given the current political climate.

"are much too cowed by all the assaults from the MSM and political class, Euro-trash, etc. and may not order the kind of all-out air and cruise missile assault that would do the job right."

You have that right. Likely it would be more of the "surgical" strike type thing. Sometimes a good arc-light type strike is what gets noticed.

Nothing make people pay attention like like strings of 1000lb'ers a mile long and a half mile wide changing the landscape.

Pretty clean actually. They don't even need to be right on target. Just close will suck the air out of every hole.... including lungs. After withstanding our ground forces for 8 years North Vietnam came back to the table in 2 weeks and signed a peace agreement.

They latter admitted they could not have withstood our attacks for another couple of months. With the help of our press and liberal politico's we caved to early. Bush I did the same (at Powell's insistence)in 100 hours in Desert Storm.

The liberal press was showing pictures of the "highway of death" and it was too much for our President and Powell. In Najaf we left al Sadr walk out in 36 hours. Because we have no stomach we are done as a military power of any substance.

If former Camel herders turned terrorists can take advantage of our weakness, what do you think China would do?
