A WINTER STORM WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM SUNDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH LATE SUNDAY NIGHT.
SNOW IS EXPECTED TO DEVELOP OVER THE SOUTHERN HALF OF IOWA ON SUNDAY AFTERNOON...AND THAT SNOW WILL OVERSPREAD MUCH OF THE STATE SUNDAY EVENING. BY MONDAY MORNING...LOCATIONS TO THE SOUTHEAST OF A LINE FROM SAC CITY TO HAMPTON COULD SEE SNOWFALL ACCUMULATIONS CLOSE TO OR IN EXCESS OF 6 INCHES. ISOLATED AMOUNTS GREATER THAN 8 INCHES ARE POSSIBLE IN A CORRIDOR FROM CORNING TO DES MOINES TO MARSHALLTOWN. NORTH WINDS WILL GRADUALLY INCREASE INTO THE 15 TO 25 MPH RANGE ON SUNDAY NIGHT AS WELL...AND THIS WILL CAUSE CONSIDERABLE BLOWING AND DRIFTING OF THE SNOW AND POOR VISIBILITY. THE SNOWFALL IS EXPECTED TO DIMINISH RAPIDLY ON MONDAY MORNING...BUT THE BLOWING AND DRIFTING MAY CONTINUE DUE TO GUSTY WINDS.
A WINTER STORM WATCH MEANS THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR SIGNIFICANT SNOW OR SLEET ACCUMULATIONS THAT MAY IMPACT TRAVEL. CONTINUE TO MONITOR THE LATEST FORECASTS.

...ICE STORM WILL CONTINUE TO BRING MORE ICE ACCUMULATION TO REGION CREATING VERY HAZARDOUS TRAVEL CONDITIONS AND WIDESPREAD DAMAGE TO TREES AND POWER LINES DUE TO THE WEIGHT OF THE ICE ACCUMULATION...
.A SERIES OF STORM SYSTEMS WILL MOVE ACROSS MISSOURI AND ILLINOIS THIS WEEKEND PRODUCING WIDESPREAD PRECIPITATION ACROSS THE AREA. ...ICE STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 AM CST MONDAY...
AN ICE STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 AM CST MONDAY.
TEMPERATURES REMAIN BELOW FREEZING THROUGHOUT THE REGION... WITH PATCHY FREEZING RAIN AND SLEET ACROSS THE AREA. FREEZING RAIN AND SLEET WILL CONTINUE THROUGH MID EVENING AND THEN TAPER OFF FOR MUCH OF THE NIGHT. THE THIRD AND MOST SERIOUS WAVE OF PRECIPITATION IS YET TO ARRIVE. IT WILL BEGIN SOMETIME LATE SUNDAY MORNING AND PEAK SUNDAY AFTERNOON BEFORE TAPERING OFF AND ENDING SUNDAY NIGHT. NORTHERN PORTIONS NORTH OF A LINE FROM COLUMBIA TO 60 MILES NORTH OF ST LOUIS CAN EXPECT 1 TO 3 INCHES OF SLEET AND SNOW TO ACCOMPANY THE WINTERY WEATHER CONDITIONS WHILE MAJOR ICE ACCUMULATIONS WILL BE CENTERED FROM ROLLA TO JUST WEST OF THE ST LOUIS METRO AREA. NEW ICE ACCUMULATIONS WILL BE FROM ONE QUARTER TO THREE QUARTERS OF AN INCH WITH WORST ICING OCCURRING IN THAT SAME GENERAL AREA. THIS WILL BRING STORM TOTALS FOR ICE TO OVER AN INCH IN SOME AREA WITH DANGEROUS ACCUMULATIONS TO TREES AND OTHER STRUCTURES.
THE ICE WILL MAKE TRAVEL EXTREMELY DIFFICULT...IF NOT IMPOSSIBLE. IF TRAVEL IS NECESSARY...MAKE SURE TO EXERCISE CAUTION. BEGIN YOUR TRAVEL WITH A TANK FULL OF GAS...AND CARRY A WINTER STORM KIT WHICH INCLUDES A SHOVEL...FLASHLIGHT...CELLPHONE...AND BLANKETS OF EXTRA WARM CLOTHING.
PERHAPS THE MOST SERIOUS SIDE OF THIS WINTER STORM WILL COME ON MONDAY...AFTER THE PRECIPITATION HAS ENDED. GUSTY NORTHWEST WINDS WILL REACH 15 TO 25 MPH AND TEMPERATURES WILL FALL SLOWLY THROUGH THE DAY. THE EXTREME WEIGHT ON TREES AND POWERLINES WILL LIKELY CAUSE EXTENSIVE POWER OUTAGES AND WIND CHILL VALUES WILL TUMBLE BELOW ZERO BY MONDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING. OVERNIGHT LOWS MONDAY NIGHT WILL FALL INTO SINGLE DIGITS.
THIS WILL BECOME AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION FOR FOR THOSE WITHOUT POWER. YOU SHOULD MAKE PRECAUTIONARY PLANS NOW AS TO WHERE YOU WOULD GO SHOULD YOU LOSE POWER...PARTICULARLY IF YOUNG CHILDREN AND OLDER RESIDENTS ARE INVOLVED. DO NOT BE TOO PROUD TO ACCEPT PUBLIC ASSISTANCE SUCH AS HEATED SHELTER AREAS.
THE FRIGID CONDITIONS WILL CONTINUE THROUGH WEDNESDAY AND WITH THE EXTREME ICY CONDITIONS POWER OUTAGES COULD LAST FOR SEVERAL DAYS SHOULD THEY HAPPEN.
QUICKLY MAKE PREPARATIONS AT HOME BY STOCKING EMERGENCY SUPPLIES...SUCH AS FOOD...MEDICINE AND EXTRA HEATING FUEL...JUST IN CASE THE STORM MAKES TRAVEL IMPOSSIBLE. THIS IS ESPECIALLY IMPORTANT FOR THOSE LIVING IN RURAL AREAS. CANDY BARS...WATER... AND FIREWOOD SHOULD BE STAPLES OF SOME OF YOUR PROVISIONS. DO NOT...DO NOT...BURN CHARCOAL IN ENCLOSED AREAS. YOU CAN DIE!
Statement as of 3:13 PM CST on January 13, 2007
... Ice Storm Warning now in effect until 6 am CST Monday...
The Ice Storm Warning is in effect through Sunday night for
the following counties...
In Arkansas...
Benton... Carroll... Washington... and Madison.
In Oklahoma...
Pushmataha... Choctaw... Osage... Washington... Nowata... Craig...
Ottawa... Pawnee... Tulsa... Rogers... Mayes... Delaware... creek...
Okfuskee... Okmulgee... Wagoner... Cherokee... Adair... Muskogee...
McIntosh... Sequoyah... Pittsburg... Haskell... Latimer... and Le Flore.
Dangerous... and potentially devastating... ice accumulations will
occur through this evening... and again on Sunday over far eastern
Oklahoma and spreading into extreme northwest Arkansas. Locations
along a Siloam Springs Arkansas to McAlester Oklahoma line have
already sustained serious damage due to ice accumulations... and
forecast additional ice accumulations from one half to one inch
will create widespread tree and power line damage. The power
supply across far eastern Oklahoma into southeast Oklahoma... and
possibly extreme northwest Arkansas will sustain heavy damage and
prolonged power outages should be anticipated. Travel may become
near impossible by late Sunday.
Precipitation continues to be a mix of freezing rain and sleet
for areas west of the primary ice band... which is generally along
and north of Interstate 44. Additional ice accumulations of up to
one half inch will be possible across this area... especially where
isolated thunderstorms are observed. This area includes the Tulsa
Metro area. The forecast accumulations will strain power lines and
trees... with power outages possible. Travel will continue to be
dangerous.
Surface temperatures across northwest Arkansas and far southeast
Oklahoma have remained very near freezing... which has limited ice
accumulations. The Ice Storm Warning remains in effect as
temperatures will approach freezing tonight... and again late
Sunday afternoon... with accumulations approaching an inch once
surface temperatures are sustained below freezing.
State and local officials should note and be prepared to house
many people in locations where the power supply is interrupted for
a significant amount of time given the very cold temperatures that
will continue through middle of next week. Supplemental heat
sources will be required for areas where power is interrupted and
all relevant safety precautions should be closely followed.
At 3 PM... counties where it was reported that roads were slick in
spots... Wagoner... Cherokee... Adair... Muskogee... McIntosh... Sequoyah...
Pittsburg... Haskell... Latimer... and Le Flore.
At 3 PM... counties where slick bridges and overpasses were
reported... Okfuskee.
At 3 PM... counties where slick and hazardous roads were reported...
Osage... Washington... Nowata... Craig... Ottawa... Pawnee... Tulsa...
Rogers... Mayes... Delaware... creek... and Okmulgee.

(January 13, 2007)A powerful ice storm has left at least six people dead on icy roads in Oklahoma and Missouri.
Tens of thousands of people are without power. The potentially dangerous storm is now heading toward Illinois, where an ice storm watch is posted until Monday morning.
A weather forecaster says the icy storm affecting a wide section of the middle of the country could be a "paralyzing" and "long-term" event.
The threat of freezing rain, sleet and ice was edging into Central Texas Saturday.
Freezing precipitation is possible Saturday in western counties of Central Texas and by Saturday night icing is expected along the Interstate 35 corridor.
To the northwest Saturday in Montague County, authorities were reporting freezing rain and accumulating ice.
Northbound Highway 287 north of Bowie was closed because of ice.

Our streets and trees are covered with ice and snow here on the High Plains of Texas. It was 15 degrees this morning and is now 25 degrees as the sun sets. It's a good day to stay inside if you can.
It was over 70 here in N. AL. Guess we will have our winter weather later on.
It is just so rare to see a mention of 1 inch of ice in a forecast. That would be very destructive and dangerous. Hope people have the sense to prepare for the worst.
We're going to have a little, you know, Winter weather here in Michigan in the winter.
What a surprise.
Would someone please show weather forecasters how to untoggle the Caps Lock key.
This is a crazy winter. We had four inches of snow Wednesday night here on the central Oregon Coast. Almost unheard of.
Annie and I hope you kids are ok let us know if you need someting we can dash out and help
To all you great people in the path of that ice storm front - prayers and ya'll be careful! Stay warm and safe!
Missed us in Des Moines again by 10 or 20 miles (south of us), just like the one two or three weeks ago that dumped all that stuff south of us. Do drive like your life depends on it, youse guyz in the ice belt tonight and tomorrow.
Would someone please show weather forecasters how to untoggle the Caps Lock key.
It was cut and paste WYSIWYG from NOAA. You may search the link to determine this yourself. I didn't post in a rant--LOL.
Damned Global Warming again...
Think TTY.
What website did you get this from? Thx.
I'm curious if you normally receive flooding rains followed by three ice storm dumps of over 3 inches with an extra 2-4 inches of snow and sleet as a cherry on top?
