WASHINGTON (AFP) - The administration of President George W. Bush has asked Congress to authorize 86 million dollars in military aid to boost security forces loyal to moderate Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas, a senior US official said.
"Eighty-six million is the figure we're looking at with Congress, that's our starting point," said State Department spokesman Sean McCormack.

they are hoping that Abbas will crack down on Hammas- although Abbas is STILL anti-Jew- he is probably the closest thing to a 'moderate' in Palestine that there is-

Perhaps they should recover all the money from America and Europe that has been salted away in private accounts..
If that is not possible -- then the Palestinians should seek help from their fellow Islamists.
They are certainly rich enough with oil money to help them..

Let's look at what Abbas said on Friday in a speech in Ramallah:
“We have a legitimate right to direct our guns against Israeli occupation. It is forbidden to use these guns against Palestinians. ...Palestinian infighting and blood are a red line that must not be crossed.”
Craaaazy. No Palestinian is "with" us, and giving them this amount of (my) money is insane.
Insane is right -- unless we also give Hamas an equal amount of aid on the solemn promise that the two sides will use it only to fight one another...
If they need money let them go to the Frenchies.

He also said anyone who harbors terrorists would be treated as terrorists in the same speech. Palestinians harbor terrorists (80% of them are terrorists anyway) and The US is funding terrorists, so bomb ourselves, Bush.
My ethics-decision maker is working overtime, but that might be not-sooo-bad.

Seems he 'crossed the isle' on illegal immigration and hasn't found his way back yet...and I'm sure the palestinian sympathizing liberal left will have no problem obliging the President on this too.
I can think of other, better ways we can spend the money.
