At first glance I must I admit I like it, but then my idea of 'piracy' would probably look like 'flea market' to others.

It seems technology (as in most everything else) is a double edged sword, IOW it comes with consequences either way.

Pirates ye be out on the media seas of Intl commerce ;)

/Science fiction mode on> You know the 'black market' of technology ideas could well replace the cultures contemporary addictions in the future. Small wars could well be fought over it. /sf mode off>

** Arrrrrggghhhh! **

I just went over to look at their site. It had Pirates of Sealand, and a funny gif of the platform on the page. I also noticed they a very diverse selection of pirate(d) stuff.

Everything from 24's new season to Girls gone Wild to Happy Feet to stuff that just opened at theaters.

I guess they are Pirates. Arrrggghhh!

Isn't that nation called China? Considering some of the cheap dvd's I've seen on ebay that are being shipped from there...When you see DVD "the complete set" that go for $300 in the US for $19.95, I'm thinking there be pirates in China, too.

Does not work for 'this pirate' LOL

Thats about the rattiest looking thing for sale I have ever seen, outside of a 'Willys' at the Indy Speedway which was 80% bondo and 20% rust.

I think a savvy investor paid $30k for it ;)

I'm not in that market so I have not seen those. But that brings up the 'Piracy issue' on larger levels.

How many bad guys you think went in to Russia or Ukraine with $20 Mil to pick up some weapons grade nuclear material and came back out dead, or maybe alive with a few grams of something that a Geiger counter would pickup?

I would not imagine that this would make sense. The internet can just refuse to take traffic from the island I would guess.

Not only China. Here in Thailand, pirate DVDs go for around $5 US on average. It is actually a good thing for me since it is the only way to see a large percentage of movies.

The local video rental stores have incredibly bad selections. It is often difficult to find even new Hollywood releases and you can pretty much forget about any independent films or anything relatively obscure. Even at stores that sell legit DVDs the selection is horrible.

Of course, I could have family back in the US purchase and send them to me, but isn't that illegal also? I am then in violation of the DMCA because I circumvented region codes by playing them on my 'Region 0' DVD player here in Thailand.

So what are my options? Since I can't legally watch my movie of choice, I can either do without or break the law. My only real dilemma is deciding if I should wait for it to download for free off the Internet or just go pay my $5.

Actually, all their site does is track Torrent files, which a persons Bit-Torrent client then uses to find the media in question, on someone else's system, somewhere else in the world.

The Music And Film Industry Association of America (MAFIAA) tried to shut them down, police raided them and took their servers (still have them actually) and those guys got some new equipment and rebuilt their system.

Kinda looks like it. I wonder if it's included in the purchase price.

I lead a very sheltered life. I never even heard of a torrent file until people started talking about the leaked "24" episodes of the upcoming two night premiere.

Re: Sealand-They obviously don't have their own electric company/telephone company, so I don't even see how all the server stuff would work, but then I'm pretty ignorant about all this stuff.

And y'all wonder why companies are putting such painful copyright protection schemes.
