White House Spokesman Blasts Sen. Boxer's Exchange With Secretary Rice

WASHINGTON — The White House fired back Friday at Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer's verbal slap at Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, calling the California Democrat's caustic comments about Rice's family life "outrageous."

Boxer lit into Rice on Thursday with bitter diatribe during a heated line of questioning before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee looking into Iraq policies. At one point, Boxer turned to the broad question of who pays the ultimate price for war. Rice has never married and has no children.

"Who pays the price? I'm not going to pay a personal price. My kids are too old and my grandchild is too young," Boxer said. "You're not going to pay a particular price, as I understand it, with an immediate family. So who pays the price? The American military and their families."

Yeah and Condi can play classic music on a piano like a pro too.

What can Boxer musically play the bongo's?

You know, I was watching the old movie "The Andromeda Strain" (Chrichton) on TV the other day. They had to assign a person the job of stopping the self-destruct if necessary, and it was given to the single guy with no kids. They said studies showed that such a person was best suited to make decisions rationally about life and death.

On the West Wing, when the president had his daughter kidnapped, he actually temporarily resigned as president, because he correctly realised that having a personal stake would cloud his judgment, and he might not be able to respond correctly to the terrorists if he thought it might cost his daughter's life.

If a Senator votes to end a war NOT because it's the right thing to do, but simply to save his own son from getting killed, that isn't honorable, it's selfish, self-serving, and could even be traitorous.

That suggestion by Boxer is the real evil here, beyond her sniping about Rice not having children.

Well, this is the same crowd that was wishing Laura Bush ill health after her brush with cancer was disclosed to the larger public.

Compare their reaction with the reactions here on FR when we learned of Ann Richards' death and/or Tim Johnson's illness.

And, they call us "haters." /baffled

Looks like feminism really is dead.

Even the left doesn't care about it anymore.

Wonder how many of the dead on 9/11 were single women with no kids? And were they categorized as spinsters?

Boxer is a twerp without a doubt, but I don't think Condi is a shrinking violet that needs to be defended, either. I just saw an interview with her on FOX about the incident and she seemed to be laughing the whole thing off. She does the classy thing when suffering a personal attack. She rises above the fray. In a battle of wits with Condi, Boxer is most definitely unarmed.

Being that Boxer is my Senator, I hope she keeps on saying things like this, worse and often. Maybe then the voters will help me get rid of her!!

If I was Presient Bush, I'd find the nearest economic powerhouse in Boxer's hometown in California and order up a huge IRA AUDIT and mark it - you can thank your Callous, insensitive, racist senator boxer for this gift!

Boxer is a racist like most Democrats. She really let the cat out of the bag in ragrds to her utter disdain for other females in power, she feels very threatened.
Since it was a minority woman, Babs just lost it and showed her racist and sexist tendencies.

To Barbara Boxer,

In the immortal words of Jack Nicholson:

"You're just gonna have to trust me about this one thing. You need a lot of drinks."

"To break the ice?"

"To kill the bug that you have up your ass."

I think we should make a concerted effort to emigrate all conservatives out of that state and then just raze the entire place and all the liberals right to the ground.

I'd rather see enough conservative emigrate INTO California so that all leftist policies could be eliminated and the state return to it's previous glory (and more). Eliminating the income tax alone would probably create in California the wealthiest nation-state on earth.

I am a female from California and I really can't stand Boxer. I think that she is a cruel, tasteless witch. However, having said that, I think that way too much is being made of her comment to Rice -- and for the wrong reasons.

The point made in the commentary to the video was much more illuminating -- that the purpose of the hearing was to ask relevant policy questions of Rice, and yet instead all the Senators in the hearing were doing was "running for president". If someone wants to smack Boxer for something, it should be this -- that she asked no relevant policy questions of Rice and instead wasted everyone's time with ridiculous posturing that tells us that she is completely unqualified for the job of Senator. Putting unqualified females who act like idiots is the most "serious blow to womens' rights" -- not simply some stupid comment about who has children or not! Because neither Boxer, nor Rice, nor Bush, have ever spent time in a foxhole as a wartime soldier, does that mean that none are qualified to make policy decisons or recommendations re the US military? Give me a break!

The (R) turnout was a disappointment...

That's an excellent response and perfect for Rice to have used - if we don't continue, everyone's children will pay the price.

Bush and his crowed will respond as they usually do . ( crickets chirping) . These people have had their way with this administration since the beginning without paying a price. They bring it on themselves. I don't know who i despise the most , the crass rabble on th left or the feckless new tone , turn the other cheek administration. I will be glad when this bunch is gone. The pulic has no respect for the weak .Hows that for new tone ?

One Vietnam War veteran — and recent American Legion national commander — who now has a son serving in Afghanistan said he was put off by Boxer's comments. Thomas Bock, 59, of Aurora, Colo., said he heard about the exchange on local radio and thought, "Wow! What a terrible thing to say, that only those people that have family members in the military have a price to pay. This is our freedom, this is our county. And the sooner that we stand up and stand for our country, the sooner we'll be able to bring our troops home."

He said despite the fact that his son, helicopter pilot Army Capt. Adam Bock, is back in a combat zone, "I think she [Boxer] missed the whole point. ... You've got to focus on what the real issue is, and the real issue is the global war on terror, not a personal price or the personal sacrifice. This is a sacrifice for our country."

Did you *read* Tony Snow's response at all? Or Condi's response? That's turning the other cheek? Wow...you have odd definitions.

Boxer is a flaming example of what's wrong with the left. She is an intolerant, hateful racist with no class.
She is held up as an example of modern feminism. That would be about right.
